NEW PEN CLUB! JOIN THE DIPLOMATS!

So I was thinking about just how many people own many different pens. I know that tastes range and everyone has pride in their collection. However, it seems that there are certain pens that give people more of an identity in the pen world than others. For instance, one who owns random Parkers almost always seems to come back to the 51. One who own's Esterbrooks ends up talkng about J's more often than not. I don't see this as being any different in the Montblanc world.

I think that the staple of the Montblanc collection is the 149. There are many owners but I think that those who love 149's and vintage 149's would definitely see themselves different than he who owns only Bohemes or Starwalkers. (Not to knock either of those pens as I have one of each).

So, here's the proposition. How about a members only club? Sound fun? It would allow users to know just who to go to for 149 questions and would give us 149 users to show a bit of pride in using the pen that has become the standard for fountain pen elegance. Members of this club would have other famous people to identify with as well...John F. Kennedy was a Diplomat user, Luciano Pavarotti, Mikhail Gorbatchev, and many others.

So here's how to join. Leave a post on this thread with your name, location, and then Diplomat # XXX (using whatever number's next from the last post). Also pictures of you and your 149 would be a nice addition. One could even change your custom member title to state "Diplomat #XXX.

Just a thought for something fun and here's hoping it takes off. Enjoy and keep writing!

I agree with this statement.

Diplomat #002, then. Multiple 149s with multiple nib sizes.

I gave my real Diplomats to a youngster who was intrigued by my fountain pens. They were a new experience for him. But I still have some Montblanc 149s so I guess I would still qualify even though they get almost no pocket time.

Diplomat #003?

I really would like #003, it's the suffix at end of my name, Roger Lambert, III since that number taken I'll take a multiple of 3 and that would be #015 which was number of my baseball jersey....back in the day!

Three 149s sorry no pix I am so picture challenged don't even have camera

May you and those you love, be always blessed with peace and never ending joy.

I happen to own the rights to Diplomat #003 and would be willing to sub-license the Diplomat #003® brand. We can discuss terms, rights and products to be covered.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
