Does anybody know a recipe for orange? Not happy with the oranges I'm trying and would like to make my own. 1:1 Noodler Red and Yellow?

I just made the following:

- equal portions of Herbin Rouge Caroubier and Diamine Sunshine Yellow (1:1)

I love the result. It looks similar to Diamine Orange, but behaves better.

hi there!

i'm a fan of rohrer&klingner so my orange blend goes something like this:

helianthus yellow:morinda red:fernambuk light red 4:1:1

and turns into a very pleasant and well-behaved deep pumpkin orange

Hmm,

Have you tried out CdA's Saffron? In the meantime my favourite orange (I think).

Not too bright (a bright red just like a bright or "true" blue is always good), but this orange is a deeper orange. IMO not as pure or true an orange with more yellow as in saffron itself (which I always use in a paella dish) or as orange as a real piece of fresh orange peel... but then again not too brown or green an orange, either.

Maybe somewhat more the colour of some fresh rust (as somebody else said lately).

Diamine Monaco Red and Rohrer and Klingner Sunflower Yellow (Helianthus) makes a very nice orange - similar to the Iroshiziku Yu-Yake and CdA Saffron. I use about 1/3 Monaco Red and 2/3 Sunflower Yellow. This combination gives a deep orange that gives a lovely shading.

You might want to take a look here. I recently decided to go down the CMYK route for making colors that I don't frequently use, but do sometimes have a need for (eg. red). I suppose that any color ink produced with the same composition as the regular Noodler's colors can be created by mixing CMYK colors, but I'll be buggered if I'm clever enough to figure it out. However, the chart is helpful in mixing some basic colors and getting an idea of what a sample might look like before blindly trying and coming up with a muddy mess.

  • 6 years later...

Zombie thread, I know. I found the Noodlers Yellow + Shah's Rose orange mixes to not be saturated enough compared to Apache Sunset or Diamine oranges.

Here's four orange shades from mixing Rohrer & Klingner Helianthus with Fernambuk. I think 4, which is a 1:1 mix, or 6 (2H:3F) looks an awful lot like the much pricier Iroshizuku Fuyu-Gaki.

I ordered the Fernambuk mostly to try this, as I don't have much love for slightly pinkish red ink, but slightly pinkish oranges I like. And, I needed an extra since five bottles works well for free shipping to USA from Seitz .

Line 6 is 2:3 and 8 is 1:2 ratio of Helianthus:Fernambuk

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
