Working your way through the pantheon of Hindu deities is quite a good wheeze for a limited edition - this one could run for quite some time :happyberet: .

Actually, quite hideous - reminiscent of the sort of thing one might pop into a plastic bag on an early morning walk with Towser. I didn't realise that Caran d'Ache were into limited editions, but I suppose they can't resist.

Is Shiva the god of death? I think I remember hearing it when watching a movie.

Interesting Shiva is also the 7 days of morning in the Jewish faith after a man is barried.

I don't know how anyone writes with so much filigree on a pen. I would think by the end of a letter your hand would be bleeding. Perfect, I suppose, for Lord Shiva, the Destroyer.

Shiva is the God of destruction, but what most Westerners do not understand is that what he destroys is the ego, and the destruction precedes a new era or age. He is often pictured as half man half woman, because Shiva is Everything. The dancing Shiva, or Nataraj, is a metaphor for the dance of the atoms of the universe. Each different dance, each different speed of dance results in different things. One dance and Shiva is your finger, another and He is the motion of your finger, another and he is a pen, and on and on, covering all existence. The fascinating thing about Shivaism and the ancient texts of the Vedas, the Mahabharata, including the Gita, is that it is a perfect metaphor for quantum physics. God is the space between the molecules, the energy that holds the universe together.

Ganesh is a perfect subject for a pen, as he is the one who transcribed the Baghavad Gita, using his tusk to write with. Indian deities are an intriguing subject for pens, but I hope Caran realizes, if they are going to keep it up, that there are 10,000 gods in the Hindu pantheon. I guess we won't get to see the whole collection. Maybe in our 100th life from this one?

Phone calls last just minutes, emails get deleted, but letters live forever.

wow.

somebody at the design dept has had a mental meltdown.

from the looks of it maybe even the whole department, and the marketing dept, and the top management, and the quality control.

it's really constantly surprising how too much money (in this case on part of the design team) destroys good taste (usually on part of the consumer).

it reminds me of visconti's recent celebrations of the christian and jewish bibles. different design, same bad design judgment.

....number 3: is it comfortable in the hand?

....number 4: will the weight rip my shirt pocket clean off? or will it merely cause early arthritis from constant cramped fingers?

Kali is the god of death, Shiva is the "top" god or "supreme" god.

As sculpture, it's quite impressive and dense . . . so it is something you could hold and stare at, turning in your hands, endlessly interesting--as an art piece.

As a pen, I would think it would be quite uncomfortable to hold and it seems more of a presentation piece than a true writing instrument.

If you ask me, they should grind it down and turn Shiva into a shiv. It would be more useful.

Yama is the god of death. Thanks for sharing, I personally liked this Shiva pen, it shows the various episodes from popular Hindu mythology (birth of the holy Ganges river etc.) and some forms(aspects of) Shiva.

Well, Kali's definitely the death and destruction type, but she's generally seen as someone involving time and change, often uncomfortable change. She does have a maternal aspect that's often overlooked. She doesn't fit in a neat Western pigeonhole. There is a serious group devoted to Her worship in San Francisco.

Personally, I don't think it's more over-the-top than most pens I've seen depicting Asian iconography, including some of the maki-e pens. Were I a follower of Shiva, I might be inclined to get one, though really this AP limited edition of Durga is more to my personal taste:

I think, they could have served Hinduism much better.

This kind of pens cater for the small market of Sheiks, Oligarchs, Steel Magnates or Banksters, they try to reach the attention of these busy people by trying to scream louder than the numerous competitors, either with tons of diamonds or monstrous designs.

According to Hinduism, the jobs of Creation, Preservation and Destruction, is done by the Holy Trinity, namely Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva, respectively. Shiva, as lord of death is wrong...the lord of death is Yama...Thanks

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
