Anyone ever order pen kits from China?

Hello. Newbie here. I have designed a line of pens and will need bulk pricing for pen kits. I have searched the internet and found cheapest slimline pen kits at $1.35. I hate paying retail. I am sure I can get them for half that if I look hard enough and can match the minimum order required.

I did find, however, that a company in China called Xiamen RIZHENG Co.,Ltd. is actually the manufacturer for most of the suppliers here in the States. Question: Has anyone ever ordered from this company? I see they have a minimum order of 2,000. That is fine with me if the price is right per kit with shipping.

Also, what's involved with shipping? I have no experience importing from a global manufacturer. How much duty taxes do you pay? How are they shipped? I have not contacted Xiamen as of yet, was hoping to find someone here in this forum without the language barriers, etc. LOL.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Curt

I've never done it. Not sure many people here will have. 2000 kits is, well, a VAST number. If you are going to do that number yourself, I suspect you'll get very tired of your lathe!

Richard.

If you really want those quantities, call someone like Berea Hardwoods.

They will give you volume discounts. Keep mind that with duties, international shipping, customs...there's a lot of hassle with getting things from China. And your kits will come on a boat, unless you want to pay MONSTROUS shipping charges...so imagine the time involved. I've had large volume international orders sit in a US port for a month waiting on customs.

My guess is that Berea would give you a price that would be very close to wholesale, and then they take all the international hassles and costs since that have orders coming in all the time.

If you are starting a business and plan on doing these orders repeatedly, then consider buying direct. If this is a one-time deal, go with a distributor. My 2 cents.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
