Pen Cabinet

I am interested in purchasing a few of these slotted display trays but the thought of putting my credit card information on this site is disquieting to me. Is there any way to just call Gary?

The page for ordering the trays is secure, so there should be no worries there, but Gary's number is listed on his home page: GoPens

Call him, I've dealt with him on numerous occasions, including purchasing about 50 of these liners as well as numerous pens. Always a gentleman and first rate guy. In fact, if you're unsure, he'll send you some samples so you can get an idea what will look best in your cabinet/case. I found this very helpful, as I couldn't decide between the grey and the tan, and didn't want 20+ drawers in a color I hated. ;)

HOLY CROW!!! I just checked that site out, and realized that Gary is MINUTES from my house...lol

No wonder every time I walk into an antique shop and ask for fountain pens, I get "a guy just beat you here"...lol

Check out the map chests at this location:

Map Chests

Not bad prices and with the Go Pens trays, cut to fit, would hold a lot of pens!

A third option is to use PayPal, which eliminates the merchant from the CC info loop. Of course PayPal has the info - but then it has CC info for millions of people by now.

Looked better with the wood than grey did.

There's quite a variety of Waterman pens out there! And colors. And nib sizes. And you'd have to get a representative of each, no?

Thanks all as usual for the quick and friendly feedback! My goodness, those map chests are GREAT!! Look at how one purchase leads to another in this corner of the collecting world!! It's interesting to see the colors people choose for the liners. My husband told me to get black liners in case some ink leaks...I like the lighter ones but NOW I realize I also need those map chests....but then I realize that he would be insulted because he has been supplying me with the most gorgeous cigar boxes on the planet...problems problems!!

Map/printers chest are fun. If you look carefully and are even remotely skilled in stripping paint you might find one like this:

I will say, although the light tan goes nice with the wood and shows off the pens very well, there is a concern with ink getting on them. I have one drawer that gets heavy use. Lots of pens going in and out for repair, partial repair, sales, etc., and there are starting to get some small spots of dirt and grime and ink which probably won't come out. Of course, the trays are reasonable enough a person could always buy more and replace if necessary. In my case, I could just swap out a drawer too. :D

Actually, I think I'm going to limit myself to those with gold trim or gold bands, HR other than black (with or without trim), and odd filling systems (safety mainly). Yeah, I know, that's not very limiting, but it does count out a whole slew of 52's with nickel trim or plain 12's, etc. :) :)

It's funny. I have not checked this thread in a while and it took on a life of it's own! I had decided on my own to order up a map chest from home decorators, I'm going to use it as a nightstand next to my bed. Nine drawers should give me plenty of storage space!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
