Brilliant!

Meanwhile, we should start a "Keep Conway Stewart classic" society -- dedicated to preserving the classic models : )

I've set up a WordPress blog as a start, that'd make it a nice place to have a group blog and links to other blog posts and FPN threads about Conway Stewart pens.

Deirdre, couldn't you create a thread for this - since you are the founder and all. I'll be happy to join!

Great idea Deirdre :) Think you need to add Johnathon's Book of Numbers to your links to get the importance of the vintage pens in there. Afterall, look how many of us are getting all excited about lever fillers.

Just to close the loop on this thread, as it were, we've included the Spring Sale -- extended through the end of May -- on our site along with the regular bespoke prices, for which we checked with Conway Stewart.

As I suspected, the new bespoke prices Mary Burke quoted earlier in this thread are MSRP and that the actual selling price is approximately 75% of MSRP, depending on the AD. My interest is purely academic now.

Hi,

The new bespoke price in the newsletters are published prices as from May 01. A dealer cannot sell any new bespoke orders at 75% off as that would be well below their cost price. This is one of the reasons why the spring sales event offers such great value for money.

Kind regards,

Mary

Mary, I think you've misunderstood my post: I didn't say they would be sold at 75% off MSRP, I said they would be sold at 75% OF MSRP; in other words, a 25% discount. One could only truly hope to pick up a bespoke CS at a 75% discount to MSRP rather than the 25% discount being offered by some AD's.

Thanks for the clarification.... If it helps, the Spring Sale is at 60% OFF list bespoke price :)

I find it interesting that mint vintage prices havent increased in line with new CS prices. Obviously they are two distinct markets, but so many CS enthusiasts are buyers of both, that economic theory suggests that a significant number will switch from new to vintage as the price of the new pens rises so dramatically, thus pushing up vintage pen prices. When a mint vintage CS 58 can be had for, say, $200, one wonders.

This is the main reason why I will not buy a modern CS pen yet. That, and the fact that not all the models seem to be available as a lever filler, which to me is so much nicer than the cartridge/converter filler. Captive converters aside, it's still not the same.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
