Suggestions for Autumn ink colors

FPN,

I would like to continue matching my ink colors to coordinate with the seasons. Although my standard ink is Noodler's HOD for general everday use, I need to expand my ink reserves a little further. I have inks for Summer, Winter, and Spring but I need suggestions for the Fall. Keep in mind that I live the Northeast United States and the color palate shoud match this geographical location autumn foliage. Also, I was hoping for three colors to use during the fall months so please be open with your suggestions. Thank you in advance for your assitance, I look forward to your input.

Warmest Regards,

Don

How about the Pilot Iroshizuku Inks? Momiji Autumn Leaves (Vermillion) and Yu-yake Sunset (Burnt Orange) are possibilities. I have both, and Momiji is close to that glorious red of maples in the fall. (I live in the Blue Ridge mts, so we have similar autumn foliage.)

Unfortunately, the Iroshizuku inks are expensive to come by :( Alternatives include Caran d' Ache Saffron (orange), Noodler's Apache Sunset (golden orange), Private Reserve Orange Crush (dark orange), Noodler's Walnut (dark brown), Noodler's FPN exclusive Galileo Manuscript Brown (reddish brown), Private Reserve Black Cherry (maroon, v. dark red), Private Reserve Burgundy (v. dark red with purple tones), and of course the many J. Herbin and Diamine inks I have no experience whatsoever with :-)

Out of curiosity, what inks do you use for the other seasons?

J. Herbin's Orange Indien, Lie de The and Gris Nuage give the right colour range and the more muted tones associated with autumn.

So many excellent suggestions I thank you all. I will take some time to really look at them. What colors do I use in the other seasons? Well.......

Summer: J. Herbin Diobolo Menthe, Bouton D'Or & Violette Pensee

Spring: , J.Herbin Vert Pre, & Noodler's brown. (looking for a pink for next year)

Winter: Noodler's Marine Green, Pilot Iroshizuku Yama Budo & Noodler's Red Fox

Fall: TBD (but I have alot of great recommendations)

PR Arabian Rose might be a nice rose colour for spring. It looks a bit antique. It's not as bright as Noodler's Shah's Rose, but it's a very pretty pink. I think it would be easier to read than Shah's Rose. If you prefer a very bright pink, Shah's Rose is a great colour.

I don't have it myself, but PR Orange Crush looks like a good autumn colour too. A slightly brownish orange. It's a little more orange than Noodler's Antietam, which I already recommended. If you like a bright orange, Diamine has a couple that look really great. Diamine Saddle Brown looks good too.

PR Arabian Rose? Hmmm. Let me write that down too. Thank you. It seems I have a lot of shopping to do.

PR Orange crush is a gorgeous burnt orange, Copper Burst is a darker brown, which is also suitable for fall.

I have none of these inks myself, but I've been lusting after Noodler's Apache Sunset, and it looks like it would be a great autumn ink.

Pelikan Brilliant Brown is a lovely warm orange-brown that reminds me of fall leaves. Good luck deciding which inks to buy!

My fave fall-colored ink is Noodler's Habanero. It's gorgeous. Gives fantastic shading in my pens, too. Of course, I like my browns as well: Noodler's Walnut, Sheaffer Skrip Brown, PR Copper Burst. Love PR Chocolat's really dark brown ink, but it just takes too long to dry for me.

Oh, so many choices, so little time. Thank you all once more. I think I have some homework to do before September.

Just wanted to second (or third or fourth) that Copper Burst would be a great fall brown- sort of an autumn oak color (the oaks with leaves that turn brown, not those that turn maroon).

Herbin Rouge Opera is a great pink

And the Iroshizuku inks while not inexpensive are less than the Caran d'Ache inks. See this topic on the comparison of ink costs Ink Costs

If you purchase the Iroshizuku inks from JetPens, the shipping is free over $25.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
