Diamine Claret is my choice of highlighting ink, but I need to put it in a fine nibbed pen.

I concur with the above, when wet this ink looks more like a pink colour, and then dries to a raspberry colour. I had a cartridge of this last year and very nice it was too, though out of my normal colour range as it is quite feminine IMO. Thanks for the review.

I'm still enchanted by this colour. I was never too happy with the scan and realized that I actually managed to capture the colour better in a photo - taken for the Visconti Opera review a few days ago.

So, here is a photo that is rather true to the colour.

Thanks for that very nice review! I prefer your scan's color of this ink because I have colors already mentioned (Noodler's Shah's Rose and Saguaro Wine) that are close to the color in your photo. Both colors in your samples are beautiful, but the red with the pinkish tone made me want to buy. Thanks again for the samples.

I'm going to have to try it again in a wider, wetter nib. Coming out of a "fidium" Parker, it was decidedly pink and hasn't darkened with age.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

Dandelion, I actually bought this ink based on your blog's photo. Love it! Instead of comparing it to Herbin's Rose Cyclamen, I'd like to compare it to Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo, which is probably a tad more cranberry. I love both!

I also have Yama-budo and claret and they are really almost exactly the same. The Yama-budo might be a tiny bit darker.

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

Thanks for this lovely review, & especially for the side-by-side comparison w/ Rose Cyclamen. How does Diamine Deep Magenta compare? Can someone provide a side-by-side including that?

I think Biffybeans has a comparison at her blog here

Nice review, nice ink, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Aha, thank you! Although of course that leads me to another problem: the colors are close enough & web/monitor colors iffy enough that, in the end, I realize I'd better just track down some live samples! But it looks like all 3 colors are beautiful, so I can't go far wrong whichever I end up with...

Wow, that colour is amazing! I never thought that I would want a pink ink, but lately I have been liking the looks of Ottoman Rose and Arabian Rose. Now I think Claret is the pink for me.

Thanks for the review and especially for the photograph that accurately shows this color. This is definitely one to add to my want list!

I use my Lamy Vista (EF nib) for underlining and making corrections. Lovely color that pops out on the page and grabs my attention faster than red does.

Thanks for the very enjoyable review. Had my eye on Yama-Budo from Pilot and since this is so similar, will invest in a little bottle of Claret!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
