Jill,

I'd love to buy a set of the flexible nibs and dip pen if they are still available. I think if you click on 'email me' at my member profile here you can send me a message. (Sorry, I don't really know my way around this board, despite having much enjoyed lurking, and I gather the board's PM capability is temporarily disabled.) Is there some other way to contact you?

Many thanks.

Email sent. PMs should be working too so I just sent you that as well. And yes, there are still dip pens and nibs available.

Whoa - thanks to Jill for the set of nibs + holder. I've never done much w/dippers before, but these are very soothing, and are already on their way to being my go-to pens for home. Since there's a nice assortment of nibs, it's a lot of fun to try various ones. My favorite so far is, rather unimaginatively, the Esterbrook 506, but this is for everyday writing, not fancy writing. One of the nibs is an Esterbrook Relief 314 which an Esterbrook ad recommends as a "ladies' favorite." I've never done drag before (except once accidentally), so am not sure what to make of this. It's a rather firm stub.

Some of my fountain-pen inks don't work well on the cheap printer paper I normally use - Noodlers Polar Black feathers like snow flakes. Waterman's blue-black isn't quite so bad, but still strays sometimes from its proper place. Noodlers blue-black works very well, though. I'm using a liquid sumi ink for black - it's cheap and looks better than any of the fountain-pen blacks. Probably India Ink would look as well. Plus there's a nice warning on the label not to drink it (fountain-pen inks don't seem to have these, and they're so tempting).

Anyway Jill obviously loves these dip pens, and her enthusiasm is infectious (but infectious in a good way). The hand-written note accompanying the sets is a wonderful touch. She's doing a really nice thing with her sets - thanks!

(I reserve the right to quality these thanks the first time I knock over a bottle of ink.)

i still have a very small website

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
