Very nice pens! You're right: it clearly appears that the International is a mix of a couple of the most stylish and beautiful pens of the era. I'm curious about the filling mechanism on the Aurora International. Is it a piston filler? Could you tell us a bit more about the history of this model, the colors it was issued in, etc.?

As always, great photos of your pens from what must be a fabulous collection! Thank you for posting these!

Thanks to everyone for comments, even backchannel ones,

will place a short history of Aurora International next days perhaps tomorrow,

now I'm preparing a dinner for a friend that comes from Florida,

is a FPN member too, so if him want will place some images of our meeting later.

As asked by PM I'm adding descriptions of pens in picture, from L to R:

Waterman Patrician turquoise 1929

Aurora International 60 lapis blue 1930

Wahl Eversharp personal point deco band lazulitic blue 1929

Enjoy your dinner Paolo. Thank you for those nice pictures and interesting point of view.

One question: isn't strange that this Aurora has an English name? Considering the period and how Aurora was "aligned" to exploit the market benefit of the regime.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Anwer to this question tomorrow,

there was a commercial reason for the model name...

I can't wait for the official answer.

I was thinking that if they called it the "Internazionale", might have confused people that a company based in Torino was throwing its support behind Inter and rather than La Vecchia Signora (the Old Lady). :)

A blue pen like yours called the "Internazionale", no Juve fan would dare touch it.

Love the one with the big swirls of gold [left pen in top most shot].

I'm pretty sure that's a Waterman Patrician (and the other is a Wahl Eversharp).

Not really a vintage person, but the Patrician turquoise celluloid is one of the grails of vintage. It's a stunning celluloid in person; the Visconti Titanic celluloid isn't as pretty, but it is very very nice and definitely an homage to the Patrician.

lol... at the times Inter was know as "Ambrosiana Inter".

I'm from always a Juve supporter, but I am afraid people from Torino tend to be losers ehm, sorry, supporters of the Torino FC.

I'm curious about the filling mechanism on the Aurora International. Is it a piston filler?

It has the same filling system as the Aurora Novum: a lever fitted at the back of the pen.

Quoted from Letizia Jacopini's book:

"The new system was still based on a rubber sac and a metal pressure bar, but the system meant that the clutter of the lever could be removed from the barrel, while also dispensing with the awkward and easily lost blind end cap found on button fillers."

Paolo: really nice pens! :puddle:

(see, I'm studying...)

Whoa! :yikes: :puddle: :yikes: :puddle: :yikes:

Amazing and fantastic show of Aurora International variants and colors!

Paolo, I wish I had just a hundredth of your collection, :crybaby: I would be a happy camper!

:notworthy1: Actually these Aurora threads are getting better than any book you could buy. :notworthy1:

Questions:

Do you know what "Systeme B.te S.G.D.G." means? Copyrighted System what? Is it something in french for Automatic Side-Flexing Filling system?

I've never seen the alternative deco band design. :notworthy1:

Are the deco bands hand chiselled or machined?

Keep them coming.

We love them.

Right!--these threads just get better and better, Paolo!! Thanks for giving us the history of this model and for showing those fabulous examples. That green, gold and yellow color combination is a stunning choice. I don't think I've ever seen another pen with that color scheme--was that unique to Aurora or do you know of any other companies that used it? I do hope someday in the not too far distant future you'll take these histories and photographs you've presented on FPN and turn them into a book! We who love and collect Auroras need your knowledge captured in book form. Thank you so much for all these details!!!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
