I took a look and found Chesterfield ink. Anyone know anything about this ink?

I couldn't find anything on the web about it.

Thanks.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

I sent an email to XFountainpens.com asking about them. I am really interested in fountain pens, and ink from the United Kingdom, and would love to know more about them, and/or visit their website. It is surprising that no other dealer sells this ink though, especially the UK based stores, which makes me wonder if this ink is a relabeled brand name ink, perhaps from Diamine. Their colors are very interesting indeed and price very reasonable.

From the top of the linked website:

"Fill your fountain pens with this premium grade fountain pen ink from Private Reserve. These inks are specially formulated for smooth flow and excellent coverage."(emphasis added)

So Chesterfield is privately branded PR.

:)

They say it is from the United Kingdom, Private reserve is made in the US. I think that was linking to something else originally.

They are in Pennsylvania, but if they are importing from UK, they are selling at a good price. Hmm...those bottles *are* cute...

The scans, if accurate, don't look like PR or Diamine to me. Has anyone contacted the site?

I sent an email this afternoon asking about the ink, and if they could refer me to the ink makers website as I could not find one. Hopefully, I will hear back in the next few days. Very interesting, and I agree a number of the inks don't seem to imitate any ink from a ink maker that I have seen, but because UK fountain pen stores, at least with an online presence, do not seem to sell it, it made me wonder if it's being made in the UK would mean relabeled by Diamine, the blues in the line do appear to be very similar to many of Diamine's. As well, their being PH neutral is interesting, as I have not heard of Diamine stating that their inks to be so, and would love them to be their own ink company indeed! I will post xfountainpens.com response when I receive one.

Umm...so wow, my thoughts were right, a little surprised, but I did feel they looked more like diamine inks than any other. The response from xfountainpens.com follows:

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your note. Diamine Inks manufactures the ink and it is bottled here in the states under the Chesterfield label. Night Sapphire is Blue Black.

Thank you for your note and please let me know if I may be of any additional assistance.

Best Regards,

Josh

I went ahead and ordered their cobalt and ruby inks. I'm curious to see if they compare to the one Diamine labeled ink that I already have. I'm also curious as to the quality of their products generally as they list very good prices.

It looks to me like this site has entered into private label agreements with Diamine and one or more of the Chinese manufacturers (those pens look like the Jinhao/Baoer/Bookworm sort). The arrangements seem positive to me. The Chesterfield ink is attractively enough bottled that I might buy one eventually if I can figure out what color corresponds to what Diamine name. The Chinese pens are probably worth those prices as long as the site QCs them, warrants them, or both.

So here is my guess at what each Chesterfield named ink is named in the Diamine Range:

Obsidian= Quartz black

Midnight Sapphire=Blue Black or Prussian Blue

Turquoise= Turquoise

Capri= Royal Blue or Florida Blue

Amethyst= Imperial Purple

Siam=Monaco Red

Ruby=Ruby

Emerald=Emerald, though the Chesterfield sample looks brighter than the one from the writing desk

Mahogany= Saddle Brown

Garnet= Passion Red

Smoked Topaz= Burnt Sienna

Sodalite= Indigo

Tourmaline= Umber

Fire Opal= Orange

Rose=Scarlet, a little difficult though

Cobalt=Washable Blue

Erinite= Dark Green

Zircon= Aqua Blue

Teal=Teal

Definitely neat to have Diamine widely available in 30ml, 50ml, and 80ml now, and only after making this list did I realize how many inks are in the Chesterfield/Diamine line!! I know you can sometimes get bigger qualities of ink directly from Diamine, but these three sizes are more practical for me. Anyway, just my guesses, hope they may help!

The Chesterfield inquiry continues...

I just got three inks from XFountainPens and will be preparing reviews as soon as I can BUT I can say this now:

The color samples on the website appear to be too blue. The Night Sapphire I got is what I can best describe as "teal gray". There is a definite green component to the color (to my eyes).

The Cobalt is a nice blue but isn't as intense as I had hoped. The Sodalite is what I would call a blue-gray/black.

I've contacted the vendor to see if they have had any batch color variations in these inks. Other than what is mentioned above, flow is quite nice. Saturation is definitely on the low side. On a par with Montblanc inks, I'd say. So, therefore, shading is evident with most any nib I've tried them with.

As soon as I get a response from the vendor, I'll post my reviews/ samples.

Do the tops open like a jam/jelly jar?

Michael W., I love the avatar. I loved that show growing up (I was close enough to Ontario in Michigan that we got the CBC on cable). If a woman doesn't find you handsome, she should at least find you handy.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
