"Interesting" eBay Sheaffer Auction

Hi All,

I don't usually post about unusual prices asked (or realized) in eBay auctions. But I have to make an exception in this case. I'll let the "buy-it-now" price speak for itself, and simply observe that I hope the seller is receptive to more reasonable offers.

As regards that seller, I will also observe the old-fashioned precept: if one has nothing nice to say....

Cheers,

Jon

I'm not really sure how much that pen should go for, but that seems obscenely high. This must be the week for absurd eBay auction prices...

That is an interesting looking pen. Never heard of the model, and couldn't tell what the filling system is. Price does seem steep, but I'm unaware of the collector's value so...

The seller does have a ton of other very nice auctions to choose from. :)

Maybe David I or someone else could chime in and enlighten us as to the details of this pen.

Blessings,

Dave

Hi again,

I suppose I'm the "someone else." Here's a thread with some model information. Sorry - I shouldn't have assumed familiarity with this rather obscure pen. It's a standard cartridge/converter filler, by the way.

I can imagine - on a given day, with a couple of determined bidders - a NOS specimen selling for one-tenth the buy-it-now price.

None of this is intended to disparage the model in question; I find the FTG and FTD pens great fun.

Cheers,

Jon

Jon;

I saw this too and ya, it is way over the top. I've had problems with this guy in the past as he often misrepresents his stuff. He has also ran under several different Ebay names as well.

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure I avoid him.

I was wondering why I didn't see a lever on it. :) That's ridiculous to price that pen for that much. It reminds me of the infamous Phillip Benz collection.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
