Well folks I saw a picture of the Negoro-nuri during last weeks Pen Posse meet. I immediately emailed Dr. Danitrio and sure enough the Negoro-nuri, imperfections, at all was in transit to its new home.

It looks aged and weathered by design. This is one illustration of the variety that Danitrio offers within their model line. I love it. Urushi is smooth as always but there are ridges, unevenness and a really striking patina of old on this pen that compels me to simply stare at it.

This is a flattop Takumi; my first. At the same dimensions of regular Takumi's, it does look like a very different pen.

Let's show some pics!

The "aged" look:

What a beautiful pen - congratulations! I have, here on my desk, a little antique green tea canister, made of the original Negoro-nuri - and I keep my stamps in it. I wish you many years of happy writing with your lovely pen....green eyes are shining here! wub.gif

I gotta give you the photo credit, Lisa! I checked and rechecked your photos (yes I bordered OCD/stalking headsmack.gif ) to see what goodies were in Kevin's trays. eureka.gif The Negoro-nuri called me out. Thanks for your photo's and setting the meet up. Its YOUR fault why I have this pen! I too wish to see everyone's collection. I'll only look at your bat pen as long as you're in costume... You know.. you have Jopen to thank for that! roflmho.gif bunny01.gif

Very nice urushi and Takumi variation. Yes it popped out when looking at Ethernautrix photos. Negoro nuri has been for a while on queue but there have been always other finishes that got first place. Your photos are beautiful and show both, color and texture of it. Congratulations to failing to Ethernautrix/Winedoc team temptations...

Thanks Jopen! It is indeed a dangerous combination when the mystical forces have ethernautrix and winedoc converging. I'm sure it'll be worse when we get our California contingent together one of these days and a have Urushi-fest 2009! roflmho.gif

I used my pen last night taking notes, etc. and noticed that even the Urushi is matte in appearance. It wasn't until I compared the Negoro-nuri against my other pens where it really stands out. Its finish is strikingly similar to my Edison Pearl that I purposely asked to have a matte finish. I didn't think Urushi could have a matte finish. Very interesting indeed!

Thanks for the pics.

The Negoro-nuri appeals to me very much. I bet it has a wonderful tactile feel when you write with it. I also really like the flattop Takumi. Oh, well. Just another great Dani to lust after. thumbup.gif

What kind of nib do you have on this pen, mava? Is the cap post-friendly?

MYU,

This bad boy has a Rigid Fine (RF). I've really started to like Danitrio's rigid nibs lately. Unfortunately they don't have a rigid Extra Fine. I don't normally post my pens but I just checked and sure enough it does post! It's a solid connection as well. thumbup.gif

Yes, they can... What seems magic is the vast variety of finishes they can do with just a few colors available. The immagination and proficient work of those artisans is something that you must see to believe it! ... and at the same time, that's our problem as we like so much their work.

Your photos shows the texture very well, so now you have a "vintage" new pen... without have to wait hundreds of years. LOL. Enjoy the pen. Hey, I thought you are suppose to slow down??

Hi Mava!

I live in Tasmania, and just down the road near the beach is a shop that sells antique Japanese things, fabric, paper and small items - the owner is an Australian woman married to a Japanese man who visits Japan regularly to buy these things.
I paid AU$60 for that pot........and thought it a bargain. If you want I can go look and see what is there now - it's ages since I visited and would love an excuse to go!
