Hello everybody!

 

I'm new to this forum and I consider it 'bon usance' to introduce myself. I live in a very nice part of The Netherlands, quite near the German border.

 

My interest in fountain pens started a long time ago, in primary school where we all learned to use this most elegant of writing instruments. In my work I also use a fountain pen, to sign deeds.

 

How did I end up here? Well, a nice case of "MITB" (learned that expression today!) got me searching on Google and brought me straight to the answer I looked for: this forum.

Welcome -- my absolute favorite country in Europe, though I have never been to your part of the Netherlands; mainly in the North, and central (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Delft).

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
