Rhodia and fountain pen at Target

I was in Target yesterday, and found Rhodia pads! They had two sizes, for good prices. Unfortunately, they were both gridded, and I prefer lined.

Also, in the pens, they had a fountain pen. I didn't buy one, but they were interesting, swirled plastic bodies in transparent colors. Labeled "Real Fountain Pen"

I thought it was a Pilot, but I don't see it on the Pilot webpage. It definitely was not a Varsity!

Rhodia has been popping up everywhere as of late. Most of the art stores, like Dick Blick and Utrecht, now carry a selection, but it's still pretty limited when compared with Fahrney's or Art Lite. Still, it is nice to see some competition, especially when it's quality paper.

I saw the fountain pen at one of the Targets in Evansville, IN. As of last Monday, no sign of Rhodia.

The Rhodia pads were mixed in with the regular spiral bound notebooks.

I'm lucky to have a college bookstore in town that carries a full range of Rhodia. And, even luckier that twice a year they have a 40% off sale! I stock up twice a year, and try to stay away the rest of the time.

If I recall Target is ultimately a French company.

No. It's based in the US. It was formerly owned by another US company, then spun off. It's currently independent, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I was finally in a Target a few days ago, but no sign of Rhodia pads. Maybe the next store ...

:) Target is a 100% American company. The French pronunciation is a joke. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

Some people jokingly give Target the pseudo-French pronunciation /tɑrˈʒeɪ/ tar-zhay, as though it were an upscale boutique. This trend is incorrectly believed to have been started by Oprah Winfrey, when she used the French pronunciation to refer to the store on her television show; it has actually been traced back to 1962, the year the first Target store opened; this was reinforced by a 1980s television advertisement starring Didi Conn. This pronunciation has also led some people to incorrectly believe that the company is French-owned.[4]

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
