Danitrio Takumi kara-nuri

For some reasons did not notice this thread until now, so I have PM you.

A word of clarification. I have own and sold my Aurora Tsugaru-nuri, and there is no way that pen is lacquer for 30 to 40 times, plus the metal cap ring would have cover up any man made variations. As with any man made objects there will be human variations. I own handmade violins and the perflings on them is not as "perfect" as machine made, but they sound better :-)

The small spatula used is to creat the designs, NOT use for applying urushi. As I said in another post, these pens are done by urushi artist, NOT maki-e artist and hence lower price point to begin with. To be an maki-e artist, he not only has to master the art of urushi, but of course maki-e, much more years in training. This is why Danitrio have move to have all their current production of urushi and maki-e all done by Maki-e artists instead, hence bear their signature and red seal. None of the any other pen maker can claim this right now. So, if you have a urushi pen bought before this change, most likely you bought it at lower price point (or on one of the close out sale) and can't fairly compare to current production pens.

Hope this clarify things.

Best,

Kevin

Soloworx, the adjustment I mentioned would be a physical adjustment to the cap, to smooth out the roughness. Not a price adjustment. Hopefully they'd be willing to smooth it out for you, free of charge. If you really wanted to bother. Heck, you could probably do it yourself with a little micromesh.

Sorry I misread your meaning, MYU. Kevin and I have an understanding already; we have resolved this matter privately.

Beautiful - the photography let me appreciate the details in the color of this pen a lot more than I had previously! Enjoy, thanks for the review.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
