I have an Esterbrook Desk pen........black (not clear) tail.......lever filler...........Here is a stupid question from a relatively new collecter: If the sace has to be replaced, what is it attached to? Since you can change the nibs.............it would seem to be attached on the inside, which seems impossible to get to........Pictures anywhere of the anatomy of the desk pen? Thanks.

I'm no expert, but if you have a lever-fill desk pen, then there should be a section that is removed and that is what the sac is attached to.

A #16 or 17 sac is what you should use to replace it.

Right you are...........after soaking in hot water, and still not budging........I used a rubber vise insert that I use to change grips on golf clubs............gripped the nipple section nicely, with no damage, and able to separate from the body. Sac twisted, with a hole in it.....and the "j" bar broken..........Who sells "j" bars, and how are they measured? (My first attempt at pen repair, and full of dumb questions.) Thanks for advice.

Hi,

Tryphon is a good source of all sorts of pen repair stuff.

Tryphon

I've no connection with Tryphon except for being a satisfied customer.

Good Luck!

EH heating the barrel with a hair dryer works well for helping to separate the section from the barrel of the pen.

Tryphon is a good source, if you're in NYC, there's always a trip to the Fountain Pen Hospital on Warren St. in Manhattan.

They sell alot of repair stuff, but Tryphon is probably cheaper.
