Just received this nib I bought on Ebay.

It is marked BOR on the feed which the seller took for Broad Oblique Right. However it looks like a left oblique in person and in this peicture.

Curved like a left foot. It is a French nib with the thin feed for the original Parker 75. and is marked 585M. It is gold color but does not say 14k. It has the little pennant stamp on it. All of the 75 nibs I have seen have number codes, not letter codes.

Thanks for any help.

My 75's nib doesn't say 14k as well, only 585M. However, it IS 14k.

Yes, according to Richard Binder the 585 means the alloy is the same as 14k. Richard shows some 75 nibs marked the same as mine.

My Parker 75 nib that looks like yours is a left oblique.

Ann:

How is your marked on the feed? Mine has "BOR" on it.

It appears that according to the charts the nib should be marked something like 52, 55, 58, 61, or 62.

Thanks.

The nib shown in the photo is a left-foot oblique, and I'm surprised to see the BOR mark in view of this fact. I think the nib unit is either mismarked or someone's marriage of nib and feed from separate sources.

Typically, left-foot obliques, whether they are italic or not, are used by right-handed people; hence, Parker calls this shape just a (plain) oblique, and this nib should therefore be marked 52. If Parker had for some reason decided to mark it mnemonically instead of numerically, as appears to be the case here, then it ought to be marked BO. Parker calls a right-foot oblique a "reverse" oblique, and that nib should be marked 53 or BOR.

Here's a link to my reference page on Parker 75 nibs.

Thanks Richard:

I thought it was a left oblique. So I went ahead and bought it. My biggest fear waas the photo had been reversed some how and it was actually a right oblique. So far as the "BOR" I don't know. I have never seen a 75 nib with letters instead of numbers. Maybe it has something to do with the French origin.

I thought it was a left oblique...

Umm, Jim, didn't you read what I wrote? smile.gif What is a "left oblique"?

FWIW, the photo couldn't have been reversed; you can read the imprint without using a mirror.
