Infinite perfection
The earth hangs in space like a shining blue jewel. Oceans give off a deep blue shimmer, and the continents appear a gentle greenish brown. A very special tribute is now being paid to this spectacular view of our planet by the “Blue Planet” limited edition from Pelikan.

Life on earth has been unfolding in all its unimaginable variety for some 540 million years. The fountain pen recalls this figure, being produced in a limited edition of 540 instruments. Out-of-the-ordinary materials combined with traditional craftsmanship make Blue Planet yet another masterpiece produced under the Pelikan name.

This new star that has appeared in the universe of writing instruments emanates an almost ethereal elegance and a quality of the utmost preciousness. The cobalt blue front section is adorned with a gold-plated sterling silver ring. Into the sleeve, which is also of sterling silver, a detailed depiction of the earth with its oceans of shining blue is engraved with the highest artistry, standing out against the anthracite black background of outer space. The filigree pattern of clouds above the earth is embedded into the protective layer of clear varnish, and is applied with the finest airbrush technique. The overall impression is harmoniously complemented by guilloched lines of longitude and latitude on the filling knob and the tip of the cap. And of course the 18-carat gold nib, written in by hand and adorned with elegantly curving rhodium embellishments, shines too.

Available in the nib widths: F, M, B

The case
This noble writing instrument is presented in an exclusive radiantly blue cube symbolising the infinite expanse of space. Inside it, the fountain pen is embedded in a stylised globe. Each writing instrument of this edition is individually numbered.

Thought you guys would enjoy this info on what looks to be a very good looking not too far fetched limited edition, of course this is going to be one of those that you won't be able to buy unless you sell your house sort of pens.

Newsletter for Fine Writing Instruments 04/2006

Dear lovers and collectors of fountain pens,

today we would like to present our new product:

· Limited Edition "Blue Planet"

The new "Blue Planet" Limited Edition is also dedicated to the fascinating science of Astronomy. Just like its predecessors "Myth of the Moon Goddess," "Hercules," and "Caelum," this fountain pen from Pelikan is handcrafted by skilled artisans. Timeless design and strictly limited worldwide production of this writing instrument make for a special tribute to the unique view of our home planet from space.

Floating in the black depths of space like a shiny blue jewel: The earth - with its haze of white cloud cover. Seen from space, the continents are colored a soft greenish brown, framed by the sparkling deep blue of the oceans. In the "Blue Planet" Limited Edition from Pelikan, this spectacular view of our planet receives a very special commemoration.

Over 70 percent of the earth's surface is covered with water - the water that first made life possible on our planet. For almost three thousand million years after the advent of life, single-celled creatures inhabited earth until, about 540 million years ago, life unfolded in myriads of new species. The "Blue Planet" Limited Edition, comprising only 540 writing instruments, commemorates these past eons, so important in the history of earth.

The limited numbers, the use of specially selected materials and traditional handcrafting skills are the components that make the "Blue Planet" Limited Edition what it is, a new masterpiece from Pelikan.

The Limited Edition "Blue Planet" Fountain Pen is indeed a unique creation, notable in particular for its perfect handcrafting and exquisitely worked details. Just as in the spectacular views of the Earth from space, the planet appears in a shimmering blue on the sterling silver shaft with its multiple layers of high-grade lacquer. The wispy cloud layer is embedded in the clear lacquer layer and forms a harmonious contrast to the anthracite-black of deep space. The top of the cap and decorative rings of gold-plated sterling silver give this writing instrument a special high-quality flair. Stylized engravings of lines of longitude and latitude decorate the end of the cobalt blue fountain pen handle, also made of gold-plated sterling silver. The 18-carat gold nib at the tip of this masterpiece was carefully run in by a master's hand and features rhodium decorations over much of its surface. All of these details combine to create an exclusive writing instrument the perfection of which you will share with only a select few.

This noble writing instrument is presented in an exclusive, radiant blue cube, symbolizing the endless reaches of space. Embedded in a stylized globe, is the fountain pen.

Wow! That's very cool. I'm not usually into ornate LE pens, but I really like this one. I wonder if the ~$30 that I have left in my PayPal account will be enough to cover the cost of purchasing this one. biggrin.gif

Yeah, right...

hmm... tried the website but couldn't find more pics. It looks like Pelikan has finally heard some of complaints about their LEs. This one, without going too far, has different lines from the Souveran pens and I like that. I like the slightly different shape. I wish I could see a better pic of the body of the pen. Not that I could ever afford such a thing but it does look very interesting and potentially drool-worthy.

yes, but how does it write?

mmmm... yes, I like that a lot. Not crazy about the end caps but they do fit into the scheme.

I'd say one of the better Pel LEs to come out in recent years. I'm not a big fan of LEs to begin with so it takes a lot for me to say even that much. I just like it a lot that they've taken the risk of actually changing the lines of the pen a bit.

sure... right after I get my Ferrari and Rolex.

Funny - just talking with Leslie yesterday about how I could never justify $2K for a pen. Pretty as that Blue Planet is, nothing has changed since yesterday. smile.gif
