As a everyday writer which one would you choose and why, parker 45 or parker frontier?

From what I've heard, the vintage Parker 45s are real workhorses, and write just as well as a Parker 51. Not too sure about the frontiers though, I have no experience...

The Parker Frontier is a pretty decent pen for the lower end, but if I didn't already use my "51"s as everyday pens, I would probably go with a vintage 45 over the Frontier.

I have a new parker 45 and i think it is a great pen to write with. I purchased it instead of a Frontier as it felt better in my hand and it also came with a converter which the frontier didn't (at least in Aus). I am actually in the process of saving up for my second one with a fine nib. I don't know how old a 45 needs to be to be a vintage but my mother is using one she was given in the late 70's / early 80's.

I would go for the 45 and if you are lucky you might just find one with the 14k rather than the plated or steel nib.

Jan Lewertoski has a good selection of 45s for not a lot of money on eBay.

Definitely the 45 is much better. I always end up with ink on my fingers from the Frontier but the 45 is exceptionally reliable - also has the advantage its so easy to unscrew the nib and feed if necessary so diy repairs are very easy.

Well I would get both as everyday writers. They are both good workhorses and comfortable to use. However I am stuck on the Frontier. I have 5 of them in the Flighter with GT and one has been in use for the past 3 years. It is a dependable durable pen that always writes.

Thank you very much for all the replies.

I guess both the frontier and the 45 are good entry pens.

Don't know which one to choose. I'll keep on searching for the best value.

I like the 45s, but for value as a daily writer, a user grade "51" can be had for equivalent money. Now, have we confused you thoroughly? blink.gif

I have to agree with Roger, if you can get a "51" for what you are prepared to pay for a 45, then the "51" is a better bet as it most likely will have a gold nib and is a more upmarket pen.

Frontier over 45 because of looks. blush.gif I like how the Frontier looks more than how the 45 looks. Strange, I never got ink on my fingers from my Frontier. huh.gif

If you intend to buy from Heritagecollectables, I suggest that you send an email to Heritagecollectables first. Some of the pens on display may have been already sold.

I have just bought another frontier today in UK, and do you know? the Frontier's nib has changed now, just like an arrow and with a parker's symbol . It looks much more beautiful than the old edition, and writes even better~~ I love parker 45 , I have used parker 45 for 7 years, but I prefer frontier more than parker 45, why? because, their prices should be almost the same, but the frontier looks very good, and the rubber section for you to hold is comfortable, if you have ever gone to the parkerpen.com, you may notice that the parker company even use frontier as their symbol~~~.
