I have this gorgeous 61 double jewelled 12ct rolled gold top in a lovely dotty box with instructions.I found my 6 year old son today,"I'm looking at your pens daddy"with his little mits all over it.He's over tightened the barrell and it now has a hairline crack. It's the first time i've had an accident with a pen and I can't believe just how bad the sickening feeling in my stomach was.

One of my favourite pens has gone from being a little star to an also ran in one swift turn of a little wrist.

Where oh where can I get a mint black barrell with jewell from?

Please somebody help me here..............

Oh and my son didn't require medical assistance.I just smiled and quietly ushered him into another room so that I could be alone with my grief.

oooh, sorry to hear about that unfortunate incident... sad.gif I'm not a Parker person, but there sure are plenty around here, and I'm sure you'll get a lot of sympathy and some helpful advice too on locating replacement or repair.

PS...

I once mourned the loss of my favorite pen so intensely that I actually shocked & embarassed myself into new heightened reality about obsessions, appropriate priorities and all that... but that was me, and I really can get quite obsessive without realizing it.

As you pointed out, your son did not require medical attention laugh.gif so you've got your grounding and still some humor amidst the misery! That's a very good thing.

Cheers Petra.
Your right it does come as a shock how bad you feel.
I'd rather get a replacement than repair the barrell.
I'll have to get searching the net unless someone on here knows where to get one.
I was felling glum enough having to go back to work tomorrow after a weeks holiday.

I think the main chance here is that being black, the chances of getting a replacement are high and you won't have any colour match problems.

I assume that it is a converter and not a capilliary filler? I so, eBay usually has one or two coming up in a week, often with other issues like a missing arrow, which won't matter to you. The only slight problem might be that the jewels don't match, but then changing the jewel on the cap is not too difficult.

If you decide to repair, then PM me and I will put you in contact with a guy I use in the SW Midlands who will do a very good job, but IMHO, the repair could cost more than getting a spare pen.

Hello Jim.
It is a capillary filler. And it is a little beauty.
I'll keep an eye out on ebay.Just hope my idea of mint matches the sellers.
Are there differences in barrell length between different years manufacture on this model?

The capilliary filler has a different barrel to the converter filler, there is a mechanism that closes off the filler in the barrel that is needed, that is not on the converter model.

You will have to look out for a similar model to get a replacement.

The good thing is that if the barrel has a crack, it won't affect the operation of the pen. You could try to have the pen solvent welded and re-polished. That would be cheaper than finding a mint barrel, IMO. Many good repair people can do this work.

A little late, but... Don't blame your son. The same thing happened to me, more or less, as I mentioned in a new post. The cap became stuck on my pen, and when I tried to remove it, the pen barrel cracked and broke. I've been doing a little looking into the 61s, and it seems the plastic used on these very expensive pens was not at all durable.

And I handle all my pens very gingerly. I sympathize with you. This had been my new favorite pen and I'd had it less than three weeks.

Funny, a Buddhist might look at your 61 now and think that it was all the more beautiful for its imperfection. But I'm not a Buddhist and I understand your heartbreak.

Good luck in your quest.
When you get it fixed, save the cracked barrel and give it to your son when he's old enough to understand.
