I want to buy an Esterbbook with a broad nib on ebay.
Which model and nib number should I look for?

Simon

Go to:
Richard Binder's websiteClick on "Reference Info" on the left, then scroll down to: "Nibs: The Renew-Point, by Esterbrook" and click on it.

This page has a great list of all of the Esterbrook nibs and a quick scan shows 2284, 2464, 2968, 9284 and 9968 as broad widths of varying other characteristics. As for models, the basic Esties came in three sizes: a standard (J), short (SJ) and thin (LJ). Good luck with the hunt!

As you know, Estie nibs are easily interchangable. Waiting for a pen that comes with a broad may take longer than purchasing the nib separately. Just a thought - it's especially true if you want one of the more difficult to find ones.
FYI, the 9000 series are tipped with a longer lasting material than the rest of the others, which are generally folded or rolled tine construction. So, while the MIB nibs are relatively expensive compared to the ones that come with the pens, the condition of those you will find on the pens will be quite variable...
YMMV

Ok, but is there any good internet source for nibs?
If so, then it would be easier to get an inexpensive esterbrook. I am looking for a j type that as I understand is the regular size.

Simon
