My Pelikan 605 arrived from Altman Luggage and I love it... it feels so good in my hand and balances so well...
The only problem is that they only had medium nibs.. so tomorrow that nib goes to Chartpak and they are sending me a fine nib... the medium is smooth as glass, but with my writing style is does occlude the e and some of my down loops, so I am better off with a fine...

One question... I noticed at another seller (Levenger) that the 605 came with a Pelikan pen holder, are they supposed to come that way... mine did not.
It is not a big thing, but I sure would love to have one of those on my desk...
KCat
no.. that was just a Levenger deal. FPH and Pam Braun (possibly other sellers) did have some of those birds for sale however.

And if I remember correctly, those holders are made from porcelaine or some clay like material, just perfect for scratching plastic pens.
KCat
maybe you could put a thin film inside the beak that would protect the pen?

That's excellent news, Griz! cool.gif

I too would exchange the nib to a fine, if not an extra-fine. Now, if only they did a solid black 605. drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif

Look forward to hearing your complete opinions on your pen after the nib change.

The 605 is a great pen indeed. If anyone wants to trade their medium nib for a fine or extra fine 605 nib, please email me.

Aloha Tom,

I also recently received my M605 from Altman, also with medium nib. I wanted the medium because my M200 medium is just the right width. That nib is actually around the same width as my Namiki Falcon medium. You would think the M200 and the M605 would be similar mediums, but the M605 is definitely wider by comparison. The 605 isn't as broad as a Lamy or Montblanc medium, which are too broad for me. I'm thinking of getting a fine nib, but I'm wondering if the fine is too fine -- God I sound finicky, but I'm not... really.

Anyway, I'd appreciate a report on the fine nib when you get it. If there is no "perfect" nib for the 605, I'll still be okay... it's not too broad to use, but I'm just wondering how distant perfection may be.

Hi Doug,

I have a 605 with a F nib and I find it a bit too fine. What I really want is a stub but would welcome a M that I could have altered to a 0.5 -0.6 mm stub. I have a Binder 0.6 mm stub steel nib in my 605 now and I love it, but miss the nice engraved, two-tone nib.

If you ever want to swap, let me know. I can scan some of my chicken scratches to show the nib's performance if you'd like to see it.

Well I fell victim to temptation and have just received a 605 too. What a great pen! And perfect size for me. The smoothness of the nib out of the box is a revelation too. I've found that Waterman Blue-Black in the medium nib produces a blue very close to the color of the pen.
And to add to temptation if you're thinking about this: I see Altman is giving an additional 10% off their prices for the next few days!

Pelikan makes a pleasant association for the number 605, which I usually associate with the number of a freeway here in L.A. county, a freeway that is used by some of the truck traffic going to and from the ports of L.A. and Long Beach. I wonder how many 605s are carried on the 605 in container trucks, compared to the number carried on the 605 in the pockets and portfolios of the drivers and passengers of cars, trucks and motorcycles? rolleyes.gif
