I'm literally just emailing Kevin about this very pen! Is yours polished or matte? It looks like polished but I want to be sure...just gorgeous and I've decided on the stub, too!!

Enjoy.

Congrats on the new pen! Superb pictures also. Got a Densho here with fine nib. Also love that Tahitian Pearl - my favorite blue-black. ENJOY the Hanryo!

Thanks, K - it looks great and I'm still torn on the finish! I just don't want something that looks total glossy like plastic, you know? And I think the matte looks a tad more vintage which appeals to me as well but not sure how it feeld in the hand...congrats on the pen!!

OK, you are not being a nice person...
I have been lusting after one of those since Kevin announced them...
I have to wait until the DC show to see one up close and personal.
I was thinking about getting a fine nib, but that stub nib looks fantastic... now the question is how wide of a stub is it..
I have a .8 stub from Richard on one of my Pelikans and was wondering how wide the Hanryo stub is compated to that...

Hi Tom,
I just ordered this one in matte from Kevin (sorry! DC isn't oo far off!) with the stub. Kevin said it is about 1 mm. It's wider than I am used to as well, but I'm going to give it a go! I should have it by next week

Yeah, it is definitely wide. I didn't know the measurement, but it's generous. Gives it character

Definitely a signature pen par excellence. It'll have you practicing your signature and admiring it as you sit at the computer. My wife often comes by the desk and asks "what's that all about?" when she looks at my paper here.

I just got to wondering (after using my Taccia that's filled with Tahitian Pearl) how are the 'lovely musks' of the ink and raw ebonite mingling together? I imagine it to be pretty heady in the best of ways

I just couldn't believe my luck when I saw your great photos! I had already exchanged a few emails with Kevin about this very pen (with a stub no less!) and was basically hooked...then I clicked over here quickly and the first new post was this. Sometimes when the Fountain Pen Fates call, one must listen :bunny1:

Where are you finding the Danitrio Hanryo?
A google search produces nothing.

Hi Bob,
I am your Danitrio man

You will not find this pen or any of the raw ebonite anywhere else on the web as these are made exclusively for members of this board and Pentrace. If you are interested, please email me or PM me. Thanks. here are some more pics for you...

I also recently acquired a Hanryo, and it's a superb pen! Mine is the polished finish with a wet medium nib, and it's one of my new favorites. I just can't get enough of these Raw Ebonite Danis - they are nice a simple and very durable - probably my favorite styling of any pen. Between this and my flexy medium nibbed Mikado, I'm thinking I will need a Dani stub before too long - maybe a Densho

. First, I had better finish paying for my Mikado though
Enjoy the Dani Trio - Awesome, Awesome pens!

hmh. you want to say that that this is a great stub? it's not a good stub and it is a factory stub. try to get a customization from john mottishaw. your nib looks like a stub and i can recognize a little width variation but not very much at all.

I agree that the standard Danitrio stub is a beautiful writer - very smooth with great line variation. I had mine trimmed down a bit by Dillo as my writing is on the small side but as a writer, the standard stub was excellent

I'm hoping the strident comments have to do with a language barrier

Hi Chupie,
I seem to have missed this before . Very nice indeed! And I love that stub and the shading you ge tout of it. I reckon the line variation is about 2.5 or 3, which is very, very nice for a factory stub. I would call that an italic...
Thank you for sharing!
Warmest regards,Wim

Thanks for sharing Chupie. That is a magnificent pen. Just out of curiosity, how do you like those little Clairefontaine spiral notebooks? And what do you generally use them for?

Apr 26 2006, 04:23 AM
I just mess around in them. I ordered them to see what the paper was like. They are a little small for me. I tend to have a bit of trouble writing a lot in them evenly. Paper is nice. For little notebooks, I really like those little moleskin ones. I keep my cats blood glucose diary in one of those and use one for my own food diary. I just love notebooks. But I don't quite know what to write in them! I did take notes at a horse clinic in one of my clairefontaine ones. I make lots of lists. (Can you tell I'm not very "journally" on my own?)

I wish!! That is Afleet Alex who, last year, was 3rd in the Kentucky Derby, won the Preakness, after being clipped and falling to his knees at the top of the stretch, and then went on to win the Belmont. I followed his two year old campaign avidly. I loved this horse. Then I met some of his connections online and was invited to the PReakness, my first live races! where Alex pulled off what many sports writers consider the athletic feat of the last 25 years. I took this picture the next morning after all the morning show interviews. He did NOT want to go in. He likes people and cameras. He saw me lift mine and posed! He is a very sweet horse and not super high tempered like many thoroughbreds. He now stands at stud. I miss my AA. This horse saved 2005 for me. Everything else went to pieces, but this horse gave me hope and inspired me.
My other Preakness pics:
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/kchuplis/det...063.jpg&.src=phThey used this photomontage I did as the basis for their poster to raise money for the Lemonade stand. I also gave them Alex's motto "Courage. Strength. Heart." which they used on the poster and t-shirts. The little girl is Alex Scott who vowed to raise 5 million dollars for childreans cancer. She died before she could do that. Alex's owners always donated a portion of his winnings to www.alexslemonade.com and we raised money for the charity at every race. Someone certainly pulled him and Jeremy up and saved them from an historically disastrous fall that day:
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/kchuplis/det...d19.jpg&.src=phHere is a link to the photo that was taken of the near fall:
http://www.secondrunning.com/afleet_alex_200x242_052105.jpgBut he pinned his ears and said NO WAY:
http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2005/05/...eb__430x293.jpgHere is a music video tribute you can download I did of him if anyone is interested.

Cool story about meeting Afleet Alex. I do a lot of journaling, but I find those little Clairefontaine's a bit hard to use as they come. I thought that strap was really neat when I saw a picture online, but the size of the sheets hasn't worked out, and I don't care too much for how thick they make them because I can't get my hand at a good angle. What I ended up doing was tearing half of the sheets out (leaving me with a less thick notebook) and using the torn out sheets for to do lists and pen/ink tests. I love the paper! The same paper is available in the larger notebooks so once I've used up the 4 little ones I probably wont order any more.

I find nothing wrong with the Stub nibs on DaniTrio pens or on Bexley pens. To say they are not good stubs is only your opinion. If you want extreme line variation then go ahead and send your nib in for customization. The Stubs that are on most pens today have enough variation to tell that it is not a standard nib and has enough flair for a lot of people. Not everyone wants a Sharp italic, there are some of us to include myself that want a smooth stub rather than a very toothy sharp italic. It is based on personal preference!!! So af far as I am concerned, these are very good factory Stub nibs. You want more line variation then you are going to have to pay for it. Most of us are quite satisfied with factory stubs.
