Ok, I've about reached the limit of my free photo hosting on Photobucket.com due to some pictures I've just posted for some reviews I'm working on. I'm looking for options.

Is it best just to bite the bullet and fork out the $25 for the annual membership (1 GB storage)?

OR

Are there other free photo hosting websites out there that you like/recommend/use?

How do most of you handle it? Do you have all your pics in one place, or do you have them scattered all over?

Just looking for some advice.
TIA, southpaw

Hi Southpaw,

What you may want to consider, is registering a site with a lot of space, and host your own pictures there.

If you're prepared to pay two years in advance, it's about $60 a year, and maybe a few months for free are thrown in too.

Here are some links to hosting services I use for this type of thing:
iPowerWeb
Infinology
In the latter case, just mention my name, and vandebilt.net; I may get a discount for refering other people laugh.gif.

You get 4, 9, or 10 gigabytes, with a lot of bandwidth, for this price.

I know this is not free, but you as webmaster have ultimate control over the space, and no one else... biggrin.gif

This is a new place where you can post images and share. I do not think there is a bandwidth limit nor a storage limit. I think this is ran by Scott Wooside from Platinumpens.com. There is no fee and regristration is simple. I too am runing out of space so I opened up another account with photobucket and with pen photos .com

Southpaw, I use ImageShack--unlimited free space. There is no catch so long as you are OK with uploading one photo at a time. This hasn't been a problem for me since I only need to upload perhaps 3 photos for any given topic, and it only takes seconds to upload them. Here's a link if you're interested:

ImageShack

Holler if you want more info.

Just my .02 worth, but I would go for the option of having your own site. The cost of doing that is small in relation to what you can get and the lexibility of being your own web master gives you lots of options.

The key to making the most of your storage is using some software to really compress your images down first, mostly these images are going to be viewed on screen, so smaller sizes load quicker and maximise your storage potential.

For photo compression software I have been using ULead Smartsaver Pro.
At $34.95 it is a fantastic piece of software that allows you to compress your image (within limits) with virtually no degradation. There is a free trial version to play first to see if you like it...

I just tried signing up with this and nothing seemed to happen? It goes back to login page, but that doesn't work. I got no comfirmation email. What have I done wrong?

I paid the money for photobucket. It's very easy to use and they keep adding fun features.

RE: Compression Software,

I use a program called PhotoFiltre which is FreeWare, really great stuff and it will do a batch process too!

To enable you to try a copy, I have hosted it on my personal Web Server and will keep it there for a while. It is a 1.5Mb zip download, so I may need to take it down when I need the space, but until then you are welcome to it.

You must have a look at Flickr
The basic account is free, with unlimited storage -- but a monthly upload limit. For $25.00 a year, the upload limit becomes 2GB/mo. blink.gif

You can use organizers and mass uploaders and... It's great.

I will second this Flicker recommendation.

I've used several sites, including photobucket, and IMHO this is the best site out there. It's very cheep for all the feature/bandwidth it gives you. I can't imagine using the 2gigs/month. I don't even have 2gigs of photos total!!!
