Is there a real peacock blue color out there?

I have a bottle of new Sheaffer turquoise and I compared it to an old peacock cartridge. They're not exactly the same, but boy they're really close! I have just started experimenting with mixing PR Blue Suede with various turquoises... I'm looking for a real rich and saturated blue-green, but that may be different than what you have in mind for peacock. If I mix up something decent, I'll try to post it.
Good luck and let us know what you find! I'm a turquoise maniac.

I haven't seen any peacock feathers in a while, and I'd never thought to remember the shade and hue of blue. How light or dark is the real blue color in the feather, and how much green does it have?

Sheaffer isn't making Peacock Blue anymore?

You gotta be kidding me! What are erstwhile high schoolers going to put in their Sheaffer School Pens now??!!

You would have thought they would have kept the name Peacock Blue rather than Turquoise as the colour is so similar.

Honestly, I have never really seen students use turquoise blue to take school notes, but I'm really curious, was it a very common color back then?

Well I used my fair share of peacock blue back in grammar school, along with emerald green and quink black. Circa 1972-1978.

Huh. I was looking at the Writing Desk's comparison page and that is interesting that Shaeffer's "peacock blue" is now turquoise and it is very VERY close to all the others. I guess I expect turquoise to be just a little greenier than that. I expect peacock to be a tad darker and greenier.

My buddy here says This is Peacock blue!
Here is a scan I did a while back comparing some turquoise inks:

I threw the Waterman Florida blue in as a comparison to a standard blue. The hunt for the perfect color is often as much fun as finding it.
Enjoy!

It is somewhere between the blue suede and the Florida Blue!

Thanks for the scan. I'm using Noodler's Navajo Turquoise which is a bit bright. That PR Blue Suede looks interesting.

Nice peacock photo! But which part of that fancy bird are you looking at for color? My idea of "peacock" comes from the blue-green of the tail feathers with the "eyes."
BTW, if you compare Herbin Bleu Pervenche, it's a actually a tad greener than the other turquoises & maybe is the one that comes the closest to Sheaffer's original Peacock color, at least in terms of leaning a bit toward green.

Oooh....the Sheaffer Turquoise looks very pretty. I have MB Turquoise (too light) and Waterman South Seas Blue. Do I really need Sheaffer Turquoise?

Since Skrip Turquoise is a little bit darker than South Seas Blue (in Greg Clark's
Sampler, too), you could get good results with ST in narrower-point pens than with SSB.

Petra, I don't have a good close up of Petey's 'north end flying south", but this picture might give a little insight into the 'eye' color:

I think you're right, turqouise inks seem to mimic the colors in the tail more than the breast.

If I can find my Sheaffer Peacock Blue carts. (old school), I'll see how close I can get it with a Noodler's ink mix.
-------
On second thought:
Well, the few Peacock Blue cartridges I've used have all evaporated enough to give me a much stronger color. That's the color I had in my head to match.
I double checked it easily with Goodwhiskers indexing of the ink sample posts, and I can see it's a much more subtle color which would be too hard for me to match properly.
I guess I'll just stick to the Navajo Turquoise.

I just bought a bottle of Sheaffer (new stock) Skrip Turquoise and put it in my Lamy Safari B. I like it! It shows a teensy, weensy bit more green than old stock Skrip Peacock Blue (in Greg Clark's Sampler) and WM South Seas Blue (on FPN notepad paper, compared to WM SSB from Southpaw's Aurora medium stub/italic nib pen on FPN notepad paper), but not as much green as Lamy Turquoise (in the Sampler).
Because of that teeny bit of green, new stock Skrip Turquoise is not as close to the light blue color in the peacock's tail photograph posted by Larry T. I think Sheaffer marketers were right to remove "peacock" from the name of the new stock color.

Strangely, the stickers on the Sheaffer ink bottles don't really match the ink color inside. For example, the blue ink's sticker is a dark turquoise blue, while the turquoise ink's sticker is a pale green

I can't wait until lunch time! I'm going to pick up the Sheaffer Turquoise and MB Season's Greetings..
