Full Version: Making a Medium a Fine?

Okay, newbie time. Laugh if you will, but reading one of the other threads made me think this might be possible!

I have a Waterman Phileas, medium nib. Too wide for me. I presently only have Parker Quink Ink, black. Is there another ink I might try that would "slow the flow" so as to make the stroke not so wide?

Ever try writing with the nib upside down?

I have, and it definitely makes a difference. The problem, at least to me, is that while I get less "fluid", the writing is also less fluid.

There are some inks out there considered "dry" writing. A search here will reveal a couple of threads on the topic. Search on "dry writing" for starters.

But some come to mind at the moment - PR Copperburst, MB Bordeaux, Pelikan blue-black.

the thing is - you might not get a much finer line but rather just less lubrication of the nib and a lighter shade.

KCat,

Thanks for the info. I believe we have a radio station named after somewhere! I've been wanting to try the blue-black, now I've got an excuse!

I like it - it's the only blue-black I use really though I've come away from it of late.

Hadn't thought of it but I guess KCat does sound like call letters doesn't it. smile.gif My GF was a radio man - maybe subconsciously I was honoring him.
