I was planning to put PR Tanzanite in my Parker 21, but I have heard how bad it stains. unsure.gif

I had the ink watered down, but I still don't know how bad it will stain. unsure.gif

Anyway, does Diamine or somewhere make an ink similar to Tanzanite but without the staining effects? Tanzanite is a beautiful ink color.

I have used PR Supershow Blue in a "51" and that did not seem to stain the sac any more than Quink Blue/Black if that helps.

Hi,

I have had terrible staining by Tanzanite. Even the bottle it came in got stained, and I could not get the stains off. wallbash.gif

No matter how much I love the colour, I find the staining unsettling. Even if watered down like I did it, I may still stain and probably will.

Grrr. I really LOVE that colour!!! <_<

Wow, is it that BAD ? unsure.gif

The DC Supershow has what I would call 'staying power', but that bad.

I do have a thought though Dillon, either a cheap pen or get a really user grade "51" off eBay and use that for it.

I doubt watering it down will prevent staining.

I checked my past ink samplers to see what pens I've used Tanzanite in and then looked at the pens. The converters I have at home today (Parker, Waterman) seem fine, but I already knew (looked anyway) that both Hero 100's with a Tanzanite history have purple sacs. It won't flush out with water, but has not affected their performance or ability to use other inks since.

Hi,

Actually, that was an understatement.

Normally my victims for this rather abusive treatment are Hero pens.

My other Private Reserve colours don't stain as much by the way, and I have used my Pelikan Violet in my "51" with no problem except that my "51" makes my hand sore if I use it for too long.

I did that for smearing. eureka.gif

The staining surprised me. I didn't know it would stain so much. angry.gif

Staining clogs, right?

These two Hero pens have only been flushed with water between fillings. It does seem to me that the purple color showed up after using Tanzanite, frequent with these pens. However, I use them as test beds for new inks so it is certainly possible than the staining was caused by another ink or a combination of inks. It also could have been caused by poor flushing, but I don't think so. These pens never skip and they give me a good idea what an ink may look like through another pen. Neither has ever showed signs of clogging, contiributing to my belief that cleaning is not the problem. I have had quite a variety of inks through them, too.

It's not a big enough issue for me to try to use a cleaning solution on them, but I may try one to see what happens.

Does Viollette pensee look anything like Tanzanite? Just wondering.

I think the violette pensee is a little lighter & shades nicely. (I have it loaded in Waterman Phileas) I have the tanzanite in a Sheaffer Imperial and the ink looks like a dark purple when I write with it.

It seems Tanzanite looks different to everyone. Tanzanite to me looks like a dark blue.

But then I don't think I flushed the pen out properly. blush.gif

I have a few cartridges of Violette Pensee. I haven't tried them yet. drool.gif
