That describes me perfectly! I've been lurking here for about 8 or 9 months, have gotten a lot of good info, and finally decided to register.
What took me so long? I don't know - procrastination, I suppose. Everyone seems to be having so much fun, I just couldn't stand to be left out!
I'd like to start by thanking the collective membership for turning me on to Noodler's ink; prior to reading here, I didn't know that there was anything other than the Sheaffer inks the local stationery store carried. I got some Noodlers, and it was like night and day - my pens write better, which has caused me to use them more, which has caused me to buy more Noodler's, which has caused me to buy more pens because I'm enjoying writing more...you get the idea.
As to my pens, I have a green celluloid Sheaffer Jr., a Cross Century, a Parker '21', a couple of Rotring '600', and (again thanks to the reviews I found here) a Duke "Complete Esteem" and a Duke '929'. My wife has also gotten "turned on" (get your minds out of the gutter, people!) and now has a couple of Hero pens which she adores.
I don't know how much I'll be able to contribute, since I'm an absolute novice, but will participate as appropriate.

Welcome to FPN, Grant
I say- what good is a group if you don't have new blood showing up on a regular basis - novice or expert? It's the novices that often (most often?) spur new discussions. Besides, your lurking for 8 - 9 months hardly says "novice" to me.
So - again, Welcome and I look forward to more posts from you.

Yeah, I still feel like a novice, because I have experience only with the pens that I own. I've never even tried one of the high-end pens, so I don't really have much of a frame of reference!
About the pens I do have: the Rotrings are recent acquisitions, because I already have two sets of Rotring ball pens & pencils (one black, one chrome), plus a trio-pen (all of these are the "old style", which I bought years ago.) I wanted fountain pens to match!
The Cross was given to me a while back (birthday gift), in a set with the ball pen & pencil; I'd never even inked the FP until a couple of years ago, while the Dukes were purchased after reading about them here.
The Sheaffer and the Parker, though, are are what got me into fountain pens. Six or seven years back I was tasked with helping a retired jeweler liquidate his shop. Over a span of forty years, he'd bought fountain pens with gold nibs, and scavenged the gold from them. He'd thrown most of them away, but found a couple of cigar boxes of these pens, most of them complete save for the nibs.
I put a note out on one of the local usenet groups, looking for a fountain pen collector who might be interested. Having no idea that they were even all that collectible, we had no idea what they might be worth; the owner figured that if he got twenty dollars out of them he'd be happy. Imagine my surprise when the fellow showed up, examined the box, and offered $400 on the spot!
Well, as you can imagine the owner was delighted, the buyer was very happy to get them, and the buyer offered me the Sheaffer and Parker as a "thank you" for brokering the deal. All three of us were happy that day!
So, before you think I'm a really knowledgable fountain pen user, remember that one was a gift, two were purchased just to complete a set, and two others I got only because I was in the right place at the right time!
The Dukes, however, are all mine and (so far) I'm happy with my choice.
