I've been thinking about a Binder Stub nib in the same size. (I'm just waiting for a week to go by when I don't buy a fountain pen!) How does your new stub nib compare to your Binder adjusted fine nib? Is it actually smoother than the fine? I realize it has more line variation and is probably a little wider line?
Hi Ron,
Well, it's a bit hard to compare them directly, since the fine nib is now washed and store away, while the stub nib is currently on the pen. Yes, the line is definitly wider in the downward direction, while it is approximately equal in width when written in the horizontal direction. (I hope that made sense...) The line variation is at least a 2:1 ratio.
In regards to the
smoothness of the nib, it feels just as smooth as any nib in my collection. Richard Binder does an amazing job in creating a nib that has smooth corners and a large "sweet spot." His stub nibs write really well at almost any angle; they are also very forgiving of those times when the pen is slightly rotated. In short they are very easy nibs to write with and can be used for almost all "normal" writing.
