I have seen in the past some vintage Montblanc pens that were colored celluloid pens paired with black caps. Was
this a standard practice with Montblanc? My intuition thinks otherwise. Anyone have an answer?

Hi John-

You mean like the Hemingway or Bach except in pre-50's FPs? In my limited experience, I'd say that any mismatch of colors of caps and barrels of vintage MB pens are/is not correct. I'll admit I'm away from my references to research positively, but I'm sure Axel can recite from his awesome and encyclopaedic knowledge of MB pens. He is truly a font of quality information on MBs, and I would not be surprised if he knows as much about other quality German FPs too.

Well, the colored celluloide caps tend to break and so they were replaced with black caps. It was a standard repair at those times but - of course - they were never sold like this on the first run.
