I bought an older (I don't know the age) Mont Blanc pencil. It uses very thick pencil lead. Turns out that our daughter co-opted this pencil two years ago and enjoys using it from time to time. Now the lead supply in the pencil is low. I don't have a clue what size this takes, its just a lot bigger than the lead in any other pencils we around the house. Any help would be great! Thanks--Mike

Mike-

Do you have the model number? That might help, but I would guess the lead size is 1.1mm. I seem to recall a thread some time ago about where to find this size, but I cannot remember the store now.

Good Moring Eric,
Thanks for the tip. As for the model no., our daughter now has the pen and is in another state--I'll ask her to bring it when she visits around Turkey Day! She looked it over yesterday and didn't notice any writing on it (she likely didn't have her glasses on, and may have missed small print). Oh, BTW--I say a Mont Blanc "Pix" listed on the web that looked like it, and the description stated 1.8 lead--could that be a missprint (or a fake MB, it sounds almost too big--but the lead is quite thick as I remember it)?
Best Regards,
Mike

If it's a 1950s or earlier vintage pencil, then it's a 1.1mm lead. 1.8mm would be huge. the pencil should have the model number pressed in the material near the "clicker" or cap end of the barrel. I probably doesn't have the enamel in the impression any more.

If it's a 1960s or later pencil, it might need 0.9mm leads.

PIX is the trademark MB used for its pencils from the time they introduced pencils. Axel could probably recite exact dates from his immense knowledge, but I don't have my references with me now. MB began to use PIX on a lot of its products within the past 10 years or so.

Hi Mike, hi Eric,

The correct size is 1.18mm for the vintage Montblanc Pix pencils.
You can get these from Yard O Lead or Caran d'Ache.

Axel

Thanks Axel. I trust my explanation of PIX was generally correct if not particularly detailed.Eric
