I am having difficulty getting my Sheaffer to write after renewing an ink cartridge.
Not knowing anything about removing the nib or other parts, I don't want to damage it, so can anyone please advise how I can maintain it correctly?

Try giving the section about a ten min bath in a solution of one part amonia and 9 parts water. That should clear any dried ink out of there and get it going.

Hi Len

What did you do to it when renewing the cartridge?

The ammonia bath is a good idea.
Rinsing it and giving it a good hard puff to see if it's clear. May help.

The tines on the nib look to be a bit spread apart? Maybe the camera angle too.
This may have an effect.

That's the first thing I noticed too. Len, if the tines are indeed to far spread, the nib may not deliver ink onto the page as it should. It's like writing with a flex nib... if you "overflex" it, the sheet of ink simply pops and you lose the lovely flow of ink until you let it spring back to it's normal state. If you have a problem with the nib on this pen and want it up and running again, you'll need to check out some repairmen.

I could well be wrong - as the above said it might be a deceptive picture... it's just my first observation. embarrassed_smile.gif

It's rare but not impossible for the bit of plastic at the end of the cartridge to get lodged in the fang on the back of the section. I won't say that the oddly distant tines don't have something to do with it, but if it was working with the last cart, it should still be working. You might also try priming the front end of the feed but poking the point gently into the dismounted cartridge do it can draw ink that way (you've got to take it off to check the fang, right?).

edit-- by the way, that's a very pleasing pen to look at.
