Full Version: New Nib needed for 149

Hi Guys,

Only just found this forum and this is my second post after firstly introducing myself in the new members section - Hello!
I was pointed to the forum from a fellow watch freak (my other passion) over on TZ-UK when we were discussing pens and I cant believe I haven't come across the forum before rolleyes.gif
I always write with a fountain pen - normally "Cross" but I have just discovered a yearning for MB and therefore obviously I had to get myself a 149!
The nib though is broad, a 14k two tone and the Pen is from 1983. I bought it from a guy on the watch forum and I am one milllion % sure it is genuine although I haven't got any papers, etc.
I thought that the nib would be fine as I often wish my cross medium was a bit wider but really the 149 is only good for writing cheques! I am currently back at university (aged 47 rolleyes.gif ) finishing off my MBA and I wanted to use the 149 for note taking but unless I shift to A3 paper I have no chance as my hand writing is quite large and italic anyway.
How can I check the nib to see exactly what size it is - and what are the chances of MB swapping the nib without any papers.
I rang a MB boutique in Birmingham (England) and they said that they would swap it for free regardless of age but I needed the service guide which I haven't got?

All advice welcomed

Thanks! thumbup.gif

Best Wishes

Thats odd. MB usually doesn't do free nib swaps like this. What do they need your service book for anyways?

In all fairness to MB, they swapped my fine for an EF when I first bought mine. It still wasn't fine enough for me, but they did all they could. There's always this option, of course, but it's not for everyone.

Well, there is a certain grace period for new pens, Older used pens, unheard of here (but I really don't know that much about this area). MB seems to be pretty liberal about everything, BUT their nibs, because its so darn expensive for them.

It's difficult to tell the default nib size of a montblanc, especially for the older generations. The moderns would have a sticker denoting its nib size usually adhered to its body as a new pen. But once it's gone, again it's difficult to tell.

Nonetheless by experienced eyes on the nib and the written lines samples, i bet a lot of us here might be able to tell. A close-up view of the nib and a written sample would be helpful smile.gif
