Full Version: removing the 14k nib from a 75

I'm looking at purchasing a old gold 75. The nib is slightly twisted and has a slight feather/scratch to it so I've asked the antique dealer to swap the gold nib over with one from a silver crosshatched 75 with a broken feed. Currently it has a M and the silver pen has a F (which is what I'm after)

Now neither of us can remove the gold nib from either pen. We have tried soaking them in water to loosen them but they are still stuck fast.
Are these nibs supposed to be removable?
When I'm refering to the nib I mean the gold/metalic part of the nib.

Anyone have any ideas, tips or advice?
Thanks
Mik.

Hi Mik,

If you are talking about removing the nib form the spike feed, they are not meant to change nibs. It can be done, but you have to know what you are doing. You would be better off buying a used nib and feed in the size you desire. I destroyed a few feeds before I got the hang of changing them. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Better off buying one trust me you are likely to kill another pen. thumbup.gif

Thanks for the advice. As much as I'd love to buy the pen I decided to pass it up. I'm sure there will be others that will come with the nib that I'm after (a fine as opposed to medium)
