I just wanted to confirm with the knowledgeable minds here that the nib units for the Vanishing POint and Decimo are one and the same ?

I have both pens with a fine nib unit in the Decimo and a medium in the VP.

The Fine nib unit fits and works (retracts cleanly etc) in the VP, but the medium nib unit wont fit correctly or retract in the Decimo ...is this normal or might it just be an "unusuality" on this particular nib unit ?

I'm keen to try a medium nib in the Decimo but don't want to pay out for another medium unit to find I have the same issues.

Thanks !! thumbup.gif

There are people who can do it - I believe Dillo has it listed in his services - but given that you're in the UK, it's probably more expensive to send it all around the world. You have two realistic options:

1, get a new gold nib from the US for around $25. Make sure it has a new date code (e.g. A508 is a 2008 made nib) and it'll fit your decimo. Bear in mind though that's it's gold in colour.

2, get a rhodium nib from the UK for around GBP30 (it may be cheaper if you look around). At least this will match the decimo correctly and I believe that all the rh nibs are new enough that they will fit the decimo. Again, check the date code to make sure.

Out of curiosity, what's the date code on your M nib? It's the line of text on the nib just about the japanese standard logo.

I've done it before. I bought a cursive italic VP nib from Pendemonium, and it did not fit my Decimo (when I had my Decimo, that is). The square guide on the side of the unit (the thing you use to align the unit into the front section) protruded slightly higher on my VP unit than on my Decimo-original units. Using a file, I ground the top surface of the square guide until it fit easily into the Decimo section. It worked perfectly in both models from then on. I still have that unit for use in my VP.

A metal file would probably make quick work of it, so if you use that, I'd check your progress frequently. I do not own a metal file, so I used the coarse side of an emery board (used for fingernails). I'd guess that the grit size on it around 100 or 200 grit? I have no idea. I do have sandpaper, but the emery board was the perfect size and shape for this task. I suppose sandpaper would work, too, if you were to wrap it around the point of a screwdriver or something. Anyway, it took me a little while, and I used up several boards, but it worked. The grit wasn't so coarse that I needed to polish the metal afterwards (although I did finish with the finer-grit side of the emery board). I just left the grain there, because I don't really care about having a perfectly polished surface. It is not scratchy to the touch and it no longer scraped the inside of the Decimo, so that was enough for me.
