Full Version: Wow Here I am in Parker world...51?

I'm pretty much a Sheaffer's & Waterman's kinda guy.
I've had some Parkers go through my hands but none have really grabbed my attention.
All of the 51s I've had have either been fine or extra fine nibs. Not my favorite.

Well... as the Pen gods would have it. I kinda stumbled upon a nice box of pens. Um 80 total since you asked. rolleyes.gif
In the box are some nice Parkers.

One 51 is a Vac filler. It has a date code of "1". Is this a 1941 4th qtr. vac?
It has a 16k gf cap with lines and an aluminum filler that's not a lockdown.

Can the big broad nib in an aerometric 51 be swapped for the extra fine in the vac filler?

Here are some pics...
Thanks for any help.

Steve

Nice hoard. Nibs should be swappable. the 51 is double jewel then? if plain "1" no dots, should be last quarter 41. Imprint is at blind cap or at clutch?

I'm not pro from dover on the 1941-2 transition. Still... Single line imprints by the clutch in very early 42 (maybe very late 41 too) are actually less common than typical "first year" blind cap imprints. A worthy find. Suspect the cordovan is the earlier redder color too. Hard to tell in pics.

Hi david
Thanks

It is a good deal redder than others I've seen.

I might wanna do side-by-side with one of my first year Cordovans. You going to Ohio?

Will answer PM later. Gotta get some sleep. At worst, Friday chat after holiday.

Well, I like Sheaffers, at least my Crest which writes VERY smooth and VERY wet. So far so good.
But i still like my 51 aero even more, there's something "more perfect" about it.
Maybe i't's only just that in comprison, the Crest is a bit too skinny (IMO).
As re nibs, I first had a stub in the aero and then replaced it myself with a broad nib. Don't know if those nibs are still available, but I hope so.
