Picked this up at the NY pen show. What is it?

btw, does the section twist off? Or is it a friction fit? Am hoping to resac it.

Took more pics. Hope this helps.

The only references to a Waterman pen with hooded nib that I could find all referenced the Taperite or the X-Pen.

But as you can see the nib and section are different from those pens:

The smooth, undetailed cap. Engraved along the rim: "WATERMAN'S MADE IN U.S.A."

Any idea, anyone?

I THINK it's a Crusader?

Possibly a Skywriter-- that seems a very broadly-applied label. I've got a Waterman with an exposed point but otherwise similar line, in which the section is a friction-fit, but the neck of the section has been roughed up for extra friction. I couldn't say this one will be the same, but a little bit of warming and a little bit of tugging shouldn't do any serious harm.

@luckygrandson: don't think it's a Crusader. According to the Taperite profile on Binder's site the Crusader was simply a lower-priced Taperite, keeping the design and the 14K nib.

But Richard's profile includes a photo of a pen with section threads, similar to mine. But this was made in Canada.

I wonder if the pen I have somehow had its nib pushed in too far? Online searches turn up no Waterman hooded nibs that look like that. Gotta knock it out some time and take a look...

@Ernst Bitterman: thanks for the advice smile.gif

Wow, how broadly applied was the "Skywriter" name? Thought Skywriters only came with open nibs and the torpedo-shaped cap.

I bought one from another FPN member once, that was similar to the pens in Jim's article -

- but had a gold-like chromed cap with no ridges. Nice pen, smooth nib but using it was like writing with a nail.

The mystery deepens! biggrin.gif

Just an update for anyone who might be reading this sometime in the future:

The section is a friction fit. Came out after a good long soak in water.
