Full Version: A 100 year old rubber waterman pump filler?

Hi,
I recently came across the following 5 1/4" Waterman pen (scan attached I hope) that looked so interesting I had to pick it up (plus it was grimy and only 25 bucks).
I washed it so I could actually see the nib (not original, but you can't have everything) and play with it a bit and it has some kind of knob at the back that turns. Given the chased hard rubber and the way the nib is attached (the feed appears to be more of a support than a feed--it looks like a smooth nail and meets the nib at an angle), it looks to be made around the turn of the century-- Is this some kind of old Waterman pump filler?
I checked my books and online and couldn't find anything that resembled it.
I don't want to proceed any further with working the knob until I know what its supposed to do :-).

Has anyone seen one of these before?

Thanks,

-Randy

Hi Otter
It looks alot like a MANOS body with a Waterman cap?
I could be very wrong.
Is there a Waterman's marking on the barrel?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for responding--the barrel is unmarked, so it may not be a waterman barrel--I know nothing about Manos--looks like google will be my friend again tonight...
If it is a Manos, do you have any idea what the knob does? Does it just screw off to open the pen for filling or is it for something else?

Hey
I think it's just a twist filler.
A quick turn and the sac will twist inside the barrel.
Release it and it should fill with ink.
I'd be astounded if it doesn't need a new sac.

Manos I believe were made in Austria.
