Brilliant Black is THE black ink for me. wink.gif

It would have to be Blue Black, I have warmed up to that shade over the last few months. I love the understated elegance.

If you get an opportunity, try their black as well. A deep, rich black that maintains an almost "wet" shimmer to it.

Hmm (Royal Blue hater here, used it too much at school <_< ), I haven't tried all of them, but I remember myself using vilolet/purple regularly more than a decade ago. /:)

Did you mean to post this as a new topic or as a reply to the poll that was recently created?

Compared to MB's blue black it's more of a slate color that keeps me waffling between the two. But the royal blue is the Pelikan ink that I will probably keep going back to. And there is a paper store that still might be in existance that still sells it for $3.75 a bottle. This is the same place I bought Penman for $7.00

Whoop, posted already and forgot. wallbash.gif

I wub.gif the brown and the green. The green has beautiful shading in my Phileas.

Brilliant red (am I the only one?) closely followed by the Brilliant Brown. Turquoise falls near the bottom of my list.

Brilliant Black for me. It's a very deep black and makes the pens (generally) write smoother (anyone with the same feeling?).

I've just voted for th eblack - lovely ink fo rall the reasons given. But, I also love the violet/purple, but only a touch less than the black.
Blue-black and blue I find too thin in colour.

I have some of the brown and the red, but have not tried either yet ohmy.gif

Brillant Black lover here also. Deep black, dries fast and keeps it dark color.

Brilliant black, here, also...

Blue black. It has nice 'shading' and a very nice blue black tone that seems to have just a hint of purple in it. One of may favorite blue blacks

I keep hearing about the Brilliant Brown. I have a 30ml bottle of Pelikan 4001 brown. How does it differ from Brilliant Brown? The brown that I have is so-so.

Penumbra - I believe Brilliant Brown is the same as 4001 Brown - Pelikan only make the one brown shade in their current bottled series.

Brilliant Brown is my favourite by far. While I like Green and Violet, I prefer inks from other manufacturers for those colours.

(I also love Pelikan Pink in 4001 Cartridges! I also have some very old 4001 cartridges in the discontinued colours which are nice - Rose and Sunflower Yellow in particular.)

Pelikan Violet is my current ink of choice, followed closely by Pelikan Brilliant Brown.

I have written with blue or Royal Blue for 40 years but they are now very much a tertiary choice.

Black or blue-black has always been a no-no for me. I suppose that stems from my early working days when we were not allowed to sign any document in black ink -- couldn't tell the original from a copy if it was black.

Does anyone know whether 4001 violet can be purchased in the 250 ml bottle? I bought such a bottle of Royal Blue due to affordability, and it's "ok" ink. Some nibs put down enough ink that the blue looks sufficiently dark; other nibs leave a thinner line that appears light and almost transparent.

I'm wondering if anyone else made the move from Royal Blue to either blue-black or violent, and if they will share their opinions. I prefer non-black since these colors stand out against black text. In the meantime, however, I have lots of Royal Blue to use before the transition. rolleyes.gif

I have always used Sheaffer Peacock Blue, however, they don't make it anymore (in the U.S.). The Pelikan turquoise ink is good, so I use that. Levenger Bahama Blue is about the same. Montblanc and Lamy make turquoise also.

Pelikan Violet is simply perfect!

I'm going to speak up for the Royal Blue. I really like how it writes coming out of my Pelikan pens--good and vibrant. I wanted a slight tinge of purple in it, and it's just what I had in mind. It does not look as vibrant coming from a dry writer, but then again, that's true of many colors, and I like the way it looks even so.

Ditto. Great ink...

I hope Dillo confirms this.

I heard Dillo say that he uses Pelikan Royal Blue as his testing ink when working on pens. It's a very safe ink that can be completely rinsed out of pens. The other 'safe' inks he has tried can leave a stain behind.

I voted for Brilliant Brown( 4001 unsure.gif )
Its the best of all Pelikan colors IMHO! biggrin.gif

brown for me. i think brown ink is special. blue is something i used too much in school, and red feels a little too much.

brown is an all-around color. i can even sign documents with it, since even if it's not black, it's not red either. smile.gif
