I have been lurking and studying here for weeks upon weeks, and am finally introducing myself.

I am a pen freak. As a little girl I was always drawn to writing implements. I couldn't wait until I finally got to start learning handwriting in school. I have always doodled words all over everything.

I never knew I had such a common disease. As I read through old posts, I see that I have totally followed the normal presentation of this disease: buying every pen in sight, having to find the right paper, experimenting with inks, THEN veering off into a particular brand or style (after spending money on so many others.)

I started out wanting to learn the history of pens, and was collecting Esterbrooks. I decided to try other vintage pens on eBay that I could "heal". Then I decided to try an expensive brand - Pelikan - by way of a steal I found on eBay. Umm, yeah, I am now completely Pelikanized. I think I dreamt of a Pelikan last night. I have 4 right now, and 3 more on the way. I am ill!

I have really enjoyed all the members contributions on here. I have learned so much, but still have so much to learn.

Well hi there and welcome too!

You seem to be in the right place. Also the pic in your place looks good: you definitely don't like just pens, but water as well!

Welcome to the club. While you'll find support for helping you cope with your "disease" here you probably find much by way of a cure.

Take care,
Ron

Hello Susan, welcome to the FPN. Wealth of information here and, to be honest, your 'disease' will only become more acute.

Welcome aboard, Susan. I always 'played with' all sorts of writing implements as a kid, too.

Thanks again, everyone. smile.gif

I can't believe how quickly things have escalated. I have had my latest (an M800) for two days, and I love love love it. I have all but forgotten how much I had to pay for it, even though it was a great deal. Today I was AGHAST to find myself nonchalantly watching a pen on eBay that was at $450. I really wasn't deluding myself that I was going to go for it, but still ..... The sticker shock is over, and it all seems so very ordinary to fork over whatever amount for the pretty shiny things. puddle.gif

Welcome to FPN. I have been obsessive about pens since I was a kid also (little boy, though, never a little girl). During the 80s I always carried a Jotter Flighter, which actually became a trademark for me. People would comment about my always having that pen. Back then, could not even find a fountain pen where I lived. Recently got back into fountain pens ("real pens") since I moved to Texas 3 years ago.

I am not at the point you are, because I do not have the budget to even look at $450 pens. As Dirty Harry said, "A man's got to know his limitations", and mine is that if I look long enough, I will buy.

The good news (about pens) is that an excellent writer does not have to cost over $50-$100. I have some great writers, the most expensive of which was $60 (a vintage Parker 51).
