Ive been using this ink for a week now, part of my quest for the perfect purple.
So far ive been through pelikan violet, diamine imperial purple and private reserve ebony purple.
This seems a very well behaved ink. It flows really smoothly, has excellent saturation and shading.
No nib creep and drying time is pretty good too.
Ive tried this in two pens M nib M600 and F nib M800.
Its much wetter in the M600 but not intolerably so.

On my monitor, this reminds me of Caran D'Ache Storm. Is Montblanc Violet truly a greyish or blackish purple, or is my monitor not giving the true color.

Hmm,
looks fairly close to the original on my monitor. I dont have Caran D'Ache Storm but from scans ive seen its more washed out than this.

MB Violet is more towards red/magenta hues than the greyish CdA Storm. None of them is as dark as PR Ebony Purple.

My experience is the same - Storm is much more subdued, and greyish-blue (without actually being greyish blue).
MB Violet is a very well behaved ink for me too - I like it both for its colour and good performance on many papers - it's more versatile than Storm in that respect.
Nice review and scan! Looks fairly true on my monitor.

The scan looks perfect on my monitor. MB violet is very purple, very dark, but also quite vivid. IMO, this is an ink from the gods. Love the stuff!!!

I find that, unlike many violet inks, this one is fairly water-resistant.

Is there an online source for bottles of this ink ...? It doesn't show up on the MB website and on ebay could only find it in cartridges...
Thanks

Love this ink - it's in my top 3 purples (the color I use most...actually the only other color I use is Legal Lapis). I'll be getting another bottle of it soon. Nice scan as well

Swisherpens.com carries MB ink in the great 'shoe' bottle.

I"ve been thinking of using a dark purple but was not sure which ink to buy.
Looking at the scan, I'm sold.
Thanks for the post!

I saw this ink in another review and liked it. I'm more used to bluer violets and this was a nice variation. Kind of plummish or maybe just a muted purple, which is what I was looking for...and that handy bottle. So far so good in my pens. My Pelikan M420 likes it very much. It flows a bit drier in my Pro Gear, but it just might seem that way because I only had Aurora black for comparison in that pen. Thanks for your review and scan. I love the ink scans--they help so much more than just having a color chart.

This is my favorite purple ink. Great stuff . . . and an excellent review. Your scan looks very accurate to me. I've currently got it in a 149 and an Omas Blue Royale Paragon.

Nice review and the colour is correct on my monitor. I bought this ink recently and used it just in my Pilot Custom 74 so far. This ink behaves very well in that pen. No nib creep, no staining in the converter, drying time is correct (less than 5'') . I didn't understand what you folks means with 'lubrication' until I tried this ink: tne nib is skating on the paper. The colour is very saturated but has still some elegance. This nib needs a paper of good quality, so don't use this in a Moleskine.

I cant find anywhere selling this online - which is a worry.
Perhaps I should have bought 2 bottles from my local shop!

I haven't even found a shop in the UK that sells it yet - very odd, when I was in Florence this summer it was on sale there.
