My father-in-law was given this beautiful old Waterman. Knowing my love of pens, he immediately and generously gave it to me. I focus on modern pens, so I'm not very knowledgeable on older pens. But many members here are. Can you fill me in on model, date, value?

This pen is a lever filler, and is marked "WATERMAN'S", "STERLING" and "MADE IN U.S.A." The nib says "WATERMAN'S IDEAL. REG US". It looks like the clip attachment has been repaired at some point.

It looks very similar the #452 on page 169 of in the 2nd Edition of Paul Erano’s “Fountain Pens Past & Present.”

Here’s photos. Thanks in advance for any help.

At the end of the barrel you may find an imprint (use a magnifier), that may be 0452. As far as I know, 4 is for silver, 5 for the lever system and 2 for the nib size.

452 would be for solid silver
0452 would be for silver plate
552 would be for solid gold
0552 would be for gold plate

Interestingly, no markings on the barrel.

then I would guess a 452.

Is there such a beast as a silver-plate Waterman overlay (04nn) pen?
I don't believe I've ever seen mention of one before.
