I have an Aerometric Parker 51 with a nib that is not aligned with the hood. I would like to align the nib and the hood point.

Is the hood eaisly removed on this pen? If so is it threaded on and simply requires an overnight water bath and a firm yet delicate touch?

Thanks-
Mike

Basically you have it Mike. A firm touch may be required - up to perhaps section pliers, but be careful with the force. Instead of the overnight soaking, if the hood is reluctant, use a warm to hot water bath to soften up the section cement.

To align the hood and nib, note where the hood aligns when it is screwed down in it's final position. Perhaps a bit of masking tape on the barrel will be useful, with a mark aligned with the tip of the hood. Remove the hood, and turn the collector and nib to align with the mark on the tape.

Reinstall the hood - it should now align, or at least be very close. One more minor adjustment should do it.

Good luck, and let us know how it worked... smile.gif

I will give it a try later today and report on my adventure.

Thanks for the prompt reply! I've been impressed with the willingness of everyone on the Network to help people contine to enjoy their vintage treasures.
