I'm someone with dreadful handwriting who has finally decided that the only answer is to start again from the beginning. I'm trying to learn to write using different muscles following Palmer's system. I don't expect to be a calligrapher. I'd just like to be able to write in clear readable way without pain in the wrist afterwards. I've been working at this for months with only very slow progress. It is hard to unlearn old bad habits. Has anyone else had success in completely rebuilding their handwriting technique like this. Encouragement needed!

My handwriting is appalling but is just like my father's! (Actually probably worse to my eyes but people sometimes mistake them). Part of this is down to the fact I was changed from being left handed to right handed as a child (religion) and also because I have always had to write quickly - I am a doctor. I do however also get used as a source of calligraphy by a number of people as I have studied Black Letter script. I therefore think the skill is to take more time! A good flexible nib definitely encourages this in my experience. Best of luck!

I'm starting from a very low base - if only a better pen was all that was needed to solve the problem!

Trying to write quickly tends to make your writing go downhill. I'm a teacher and I'm sure part of the problem comes from years of rapidly writing on whiteboards and in exercise books. Thanks for the encouragement.

Welcome. I dramatically improved my handwriting over a period of months, beginning last year. Desire, determination and practice are the main things you need.

Welcome to the Network! I applaud your efforts to improve your handwriting; just remember
that anything worth doing well takes time and patience.
I simply want my handwriting to be good enough that I can read it and not have my hand hurt
when I write. I wish you success with your goals.
Regards,
Vintner
