Hello,

My name is David Tartar, I am a lifetime musician/drummer and have spent a good portion of my life playing music and being on the road. I have played with artists like Ricky Van Shelton and the Bellamy Brothers, Played the Harley Davidson Sturgis Rally in South Dakota etc. I spent some time working as a Disk Jockey and the list goes on.

I am now 31 years of age and operate a small recording studio in the midwest, I am married with no children. I also deal Poker on the weekends to give my life some balance from all of the audio production.

I am a fairly green pen enthusiast and particularly like Sheaffers. I have a Legacy 2 Limited Run edition (from Jim Gaston), a Sheaffer Snorkel, A Cross Townsend (I think that's what it is), and a couple of handmade jobs made from Antler and Burlwood.

I like Parker Quink Ink (Black) because it seems to be a little wetter and glides fairly well with the pens I happen to own. If anyone knows of any ink that is an improvement on those two characterists I would certainly appreciate hearing about it.

My future pen interests are to acquire more Legacy's, Sheaffer's Heritage (Kings Gold model) Pilot/Namiki Vanishing Point, Conklins Crescent Filler (Mark Twain edition) and to find the perfect paper for fine point nibs wink.gif

Feel free to visit my audio site Audio Spectrum Studios to learn more about me. http://www.AudioSpectrumStudios.com

By the way, I look at the world a little differently than most people so don't be surprised if what I say makes me sound like a "Wholistic Tree Channeller." I'm not...but am all about living life to the fullest, stopping abuse when I see it (If I can) and trying to slow down the destruction of our planet.

I genuinely look foward to reading YOUR posts and getting to know all of you a little better.

Live Well,
Mastering

Hi David,

Welcome from another MO dweller. Sounds like you've got a pretty good idea of what you want pen-wise already. I just sent you a PM (personal message) about one of the pens you mentioned. If you haven't yet seen where to find PMs, look at the top of your screen on the right side of the 2nd light blue bar.

Hope you enjoy FPN. There's surely a lot of info to be found here! smile.gif

Best, Ann

Welcome to the forum.

I also like Sheaffer pens, but I only have some Balance models.
Noodler's inks may interest you.
There's a member that plays blues with his own band here in this forum...look him up!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Ann I responded to your PM. For some reason it came to me in triplicate so if mine does back to you don't think I'm nurotic LOL.

Yea I love Sheaffer pens and my Snorkel has been resacked so many times I feel bad about sending it back for Surgery again. I would really like to get into stub nibs but am having trouble finding one that is fine enough to fit my writing. Can you tell me more about Noodler's Ink. I'm assuming its nice and wet with a lubricated feel?

I will try to track down the Bluesman, may take me a little bit since there seems to be several thousand posts on this forum LOL
But I will definately say HI once I do and thanks for the heads up!
Kelly
Hey there and welcome!

I tend to like the fine- fine/medium nib size and found that Clairefontaine paper (they have notebooks, journals, and stationery)works really well - smooth as silk, no feathering, no bleed through. I use some Quink as well (blue-black) but only on my vintage pens. But if you like a good flow, I've noticed that Noodler/Swisher Tahitian Pearl is really nice - you can check www.swisherpens.com to see that- it's waterproof to boot or Noodler's Legal Lapis at www.pendemonium.com - no affilation with either, just a happy customer smile.gif

I think it's great that you've been able to make a living as a musician so many people that I've known haven't laugh.gif I've been playing the drums on and off for 30 years, since I was 8. I'm sure I'm no where near your league but it certainly has brought me a lot of joy.

There are good people here and many Sheaffer/ Snorkel fans - enjoy!

Hi Kelly and thanks for all the great info! smile.gif

I am hearing a lot about "Noodler's' Ink in this place. That stuff must really be great. I will definately order some in. Like you I appreciate a nice wet "FINE to medium" line. I also like it very BLACK! I tried some Monte Blanc Black and it was actually the worst ink i had ever used. It was so bad it got poured down the drain just to keep me from "Giving it another try!"

I think its great that you have played the drums for so long and have been able to enjoy the instrument. I have definately enjoyed them but have actually gotten away from playing as much anymore and have turned my attention to Studio Engineering and Mastering audio. Sometimes you just have to move ahead and be grateful for the stepping stones that were there when you needed experience.

My Snorkel is sitting here at my desk looking at me and wondering when if ever I will bring him back to life with new guts wink.gif

I'm sure I will eventually because conservation is a huge part of my psyche. That is one of the reasons I have continued using fountain pens over the years and that is because of the environmental benefits of the fountain pen.

Just think with me for a moment.

Question....How many billion people live on planet earth?
Fact...We all need a writing intrument of some sort!
Fact....The vast majority of the human population choose disposable pen's or pens that require plastic or metal refills.
Fact...Pen manufacturers make these disposable plastic pens by the billions because billions of people are buying them.
Question....What happens to the pen when the ink runs out?
Question....How long does it take plastic that is not recycled to degrade?
Question....How many people actually make a trip to a recycling center when their disposable pen runs out of ink?
Question....How many billions of pens are being thrown into the ground every year?

We all have to live here!
