What would be the best ink to use in a Hero 100? Would Parker Super-Quink work well, and if so, would a place like staples sell that kind of ink? (I went and got permanent black cartridges, but I didn't look to see if bottled ink was sold there.

I have a Hero 100 and enjoy it much. That pen can handle well almost any kind of FP ink. My experiences are with Waterman, Sheaffer and Noodlers. Suggest you look at the reviews and scans for ideas.

Do you want a Blue-Black? Blue? Purple, or Purple-Black (often called eggplant, black cherry, manly purple), a Green?

Many fine places to buy ink online. Pear Tree offers a sampler of inks for a small sum. Swishers.com isellpens.com Pendemonium.com also sell inks, good prices and service from all.

I like several of the exclusive inks from Pendemonium like Legal Lapis and Violet Vote- formerly, Iraqi Indigo and from Swisher... Glacier and Grizzly.

Probably blue-black, I'll look around online until I find something I like. I just dont want to end up clogging the pen or something because of a poor ink choice

I wonder if anyone has tried Hero's own ink. They are cheap, like USD2/bottle.

I use Baystate Blue in my Hero 100, it hasn't shown any problems. FYI I'm using the Hero 100 flighter that has a black section, so, if there is staining of the plastic section, it isn't noticible.

Blue-Black, a wide open field! rolleyes.gif

From my experiences. Sheaffer BB -Not what you probably want. It's kind of a blue gray and light in my pens. Others inks are more interesting. The Sheaffer BB will not hurt your pen.

Many BB when totally dry turn a little greenish/teal tint added to the BB. I like it as it looks old, others hate it. Read the reviews.

Waterman BB is a nice ink, not waterproof, but a very well behaved ink. Will not mess up your pen. Many people use it as their test ink for a new vintage pen. I use it in my beloved Parker "51". I like the color; has great flow.

Noodlers has a bunch of BBs, most all have a hint of blue/green when dry. I often have a hard time seeing it as these are dark inks.
Navy, Blue-Black, Air Corp Blue-Black are ones I have. Like them all, each a little different.

Legal Lapis falls in this area, tho' it's a bit lighter.

All these Noodlers are well behaved inks. Legal is bulletproof ink, the others are near bulletproof which means they will smear in the wet but you can still read what you wrote.

Hero 100s are a have a fine nib that tend to write medium wet. I have three, and while they are all a little different, they can take pretty well any normal ink with no problems. That includes Parker Quink, Sheaffer Skrip, Waterman, Diamine, Private Reserve, Noodlers, etc, etc.

Because they generally run a little wet, extremely wet inks like PR Tanzanite or Noodler's Baystate Blue may give you problems on some papers (specifically feathering and bleeding). Although I notice that french has been using BSB with no problems. It won't affect your pen, just it may not be good on some papers.

Parker Super-Quink is no longer made, and has been replaced with a new formulation Parker Quink. If you have some old stock Super Quink, and it is in good condition, you can use it with no problems. As I mentioned elsewhere on the FPN, Super Quink with Solv-X is the same as Quink with Solv-X, it was just a marketing exercise.

Parker sells a Quink Blue-Black that is a little wishy-washy and tends to fade a bit. It has a lighter colour than the old Quink Blue-Black with Solv-X. If you want a nice, relatively permanent Blue-Black you might want to try mixing 1 part of Quink Black to 10 parts of Quink Permanent Blue, or indeed 1:10 of any pair of Black and Blue inks.

I generally use a custom blend of Private Reserve and Diamine inks that emulates the old Parker Penman Sapphire in my 100s.

Also the Hero 100s have a fixed squeezy filler. You can't use cartridges in them.
