What would be the best ink to use in a Hero 100? Would Parker Super-Quink work well, and if so, would a place like staples sell that kind of ink? (I went and got permanent black cartridges, but I didn't look to see if bottled ink was sold there.
Hero 100s are a have a fine nib that tend to write medium wet. I have three, and while they are all a little different, they can take pretty well any normal ink with no problems. That includes Parker Quink, Sheaffer Skrip, Waterman, Diamine, Private Reserve, Noodlers, etc, etc.
Because they generally run a little wet, extremely wet inks like PR Tanzanite or Noodler's Baystate Blue
may give you problems on some papers (specifically feathering and bleeding). Although I notice that french has been using BSB with no problems. It won't affect your pen, just it may not be good on some papers.
Parker Super-Quink is no longer made, and has been replaced with a new formulation Parker Quink. If you have some old stock Super Quink, and it is in good condition, you can use it with no problems. As I mentioned elsewhere on the FPN, Super Quink with Solv-X is the same as Quink with Solv-X, it was just a marketing exercise.
Parker sells a Quink Blue-Black that is a little wishy-washy and tends to fade a bit. It has a lighter colour than the old Quink Blue-Black with Solv-X. If you want a nice, relatively permanent Blue-Black you might want to try mixing 1 part of Quink Black to 10 parts of Quink Permanent Blue, or indeed 1:10 of any pair of Black and Blue inks.
I generally use a custom blend of Private Reserve and Diamine inks that emulates the old Parker Penman Sapphire in my 100s.
Also the Hero 100s have a fixed squeezy filler. You can't use cartridges in them.
