Go go bandwagon title!

Anyway, I am an avid pen-lover, though I'll admit that I had recently graduated from ballpoint pens (I just loved their pressure control abilities for sketching, though I just ditched them in favor of pencils [2H, HB, 2B] and have moved on to either rollerballs or archival inks [G2s are my current thing.]) I hope to move on up even further to zillion-dollar fountain pens.

One question here real quick; Is Monte Blanc archival-quality? I mean, with that price and all...

So anyway, I'm happy to find a group of people with similar interests that won't mind my inane rambling about how much I love pens and stationery. Hope some of your elite pen-ness will rub off on me cool.gif

Welcome Aqnium! I don't know much about MB pens but someone with more knowledge will be along shortly. I think there is a dedicated MB forum for your question as well.

Welcome to FPN! Would you explain what you mean by your MB question? You are opening a can of worms when you ask about MB. I have observed that people either love or hate them. There doesn't seem to be any in between!

I am? D: Well, I hope to love them once I get my MB cherry popped. I mean, is the ink archival quality? If not, how lightfast is it, will the ink not break down like alchol-based ink after a number of years, will it bleed through, say, 20lb paper, etc.

Certainly not trying to cause any trouble.

Welcome to FPN!!!!
About inks, I dont know much MB inks- but, I know Noodlers is a company that makes a wide variety inks, including some that are archival grade. Check out the Inky Thoughts sub-forum of fPN. All the ink experts hang out at that forum. smile.gif

BTW, you live in a wonderful and beautiful state. I will have to visit soon, have friends posted to Ft Richardson.

Well, here's my worms...
... MB is overrated (IMO) and too expensive (IMO) BUT they do make beautiful pens, mainly in their LEs for "Writers" and "Patricians". I do find that at least their 2 inks blue and blue-black are good inks in general.

Hi Agnium,

Montblanc inks are actually not more expensive than other inks; only their pens are expensive. You can buy a bottle of MB ink for $10 at one of their boutiques.

Unfortunately, most fountain pen inks, including MB inks are not archival quality: not waterproof, light-resistant, or acid-free, and especially not all three of those at the same time. If you want an archival ink that has all of those features, you need to look at Noodler's "bulletproof" inks.

This is disappointing, but remember that fountain pens are not art supplies -- so their cost and the cost of inks is not determined by the same qualities as determine good paints and markers. Also, you can perfectly well buy a MB pen ad use it with Noodler's bulletproof inks; the pen brand does not need to match the ink brand.

Hope this helps,

Hello Agnium,

I just wanted to send a hello to you. I'm also from Fairbanks, Alaska. LOL. How odd to meet someone so close. I'm new to the fp world. I've always admired pens and stationary from various sources. If Only is one of my favorite stores here in Fairbanks. I just purchased a MontBlanc Meisterstuck 144 today. I also have a few Cross and Waterman. I must say, so far, so good. But, hey I'm still pretty much a Newbie. I look forward to chatting with you.
