When you sell your next pens on ebay, will you also be posting the announcements here in the Parker Forum?

It would be nicer to post such a pen for sale here PRIOR to putting it on Ebay. IMO it's not nice to use a private board to advertise your auctions. It just looks like you post here for your own benefit, not the group's.

Just my 2 cents.

You really should have posted this in the Classifieds section.

Remember: if you sell it here, there are no Ebay commissions.

Two things:
Firstly he has no real indication from the thread as to the value - so this will be determined by ebay.
Secondly, IMHO the classified and wanted on the FPN are really difficult to troll and I can't figure how to find anything I'm looking for or get anyone interested in my requests under items wanted.
Even my avitar has a request that hasn't been responded to.
Any advice out there?

I buy pens in the classifieds here all the time. Never had a problem, never purchased a pen on ebay... I've gotten some great deals and have met a number of nice people.

lovely pen btw.

The OP started another thread here in the parker forum looking for estimates of the worth of the pen, hence why he/she started it at $75, I can't remember if you commented there or not.

I'm a bit upset the OP didn't post it for sale here as well. I commented about the pen in that thread with the assumption they were going to sell it here. That seems to be a growing problem (?)

I feel your pain in regards to searching FPN. I've resolved to logging in about ten times a day to not miss anything. Maybe that's the moderator's intent thumbup.gif

Good point. Probably the best thing for people to do then is to list the pens on ebay, and then post announcements in the various subforums here. Perhaps a policy and standards change is needed?

What's the trouble with the FPN Marketplace? How is it so difficult to troll? Seems to me that it's pretty easy, but perhaps I'm missing something. (Seriously, I'm not poking my finger in your chest here...state the issue and perhaps someone can find you a workaround; saying that they're really difficult doesn't give enough context to help you.)

The reason that no one has responded to your request for Newhaven patterns is because quite frankly, if you asked a dozen pen people on this board (pick a random sample - don't front-load it with names like OldGriz, David I, Jim Strutton, etc. - that's cheating!) why Newhaven was significant to Parker's development, you'd have at least 7 of your sample scratching their heads asking you what a "Newhaven Parker" was. Ask 'em why the word "Valentine" has anything to do with Parker, and you may get the same response.

You're looking for something that the general pen collectors on FPN may not have much background on, and furthermore, they just don't show up everyday. The folks who have them tend to hang on to them. I know one guy out of Missouri who was selling a Valentine that had a replacement clip that didn't say Valentine on it, but that's probably the last time I saw one for sale anywhere.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think that there are any hordes of these laying around in any closets of random nOOb FPN posters...however, if you do find one, let me know, and leave one for me! smile.gif I'd like one of those Newhaven lizard patterns!

[END THREADJACK]

BTW - I do think this is the wrong spot for a self-promoting link out to an eBay auction. Either sell it in the FPN Marketplace/Classifieds for a reasonable price, or sell it on eBay and let the market play it out.
Glenn-SC
IMHO there already is sufficient "self promoting" of services or items for sale distributed liberally throughout these forums and that this one is not significantly different to warrant attention.

When I sell a pen, either here or on ebay, I decide what I think is a fair price. That's my minimum. If I don't sell it here after awhile, I assume that I have overvalued the pen.

Nice color. Looks like a good pen. I recently acquired one very similar to this one. I had one question for you, did you happen to notice a tiny breather hole on the barrel (near the jewel rather than the ring) of this pen?

Thanks.

Yeah - I get your point about folks not knowing about Newhaven, but then these folks would't have one for sale or exchange - so that takes care of them.........

We have split the forums or should I say fora ;-) into brands.
Why not categorise the marketplace section into brands or modern/vintage? Just to save us trolling for hours.
Some of us are brand focussed and others are timeline focussed. Many are eclectic, but if we have some form of split-up or ready search by keyword in the market section, this would make life easier.
How about that?

uhm, i don't have too much of a problem going to the "for sale" forum, then clicking "search" (the default for which will have the "this forum only" box turned on), then typing like "vacumatic" into the search box. that automatically narrows down what's out there--easy enough. many of our sellers (like david i and docnib) offer pens that run the gamut of brands and time periods. i suppose they could, but i don't imagine them slicing up their offerings into brand- or time-specific posts.
