I got a pen from my fathers estate that was purchased, we think in the 70's or possibly 80's. It appears to be a Meisterstuck, but I am uncertain which kind. On the cap, reading around the periphery of the gold band are the words MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK N2146.

I can find no reference here to the "N2" part of this label, and wondered what that meant.

Secondly, the pen has not been used for quite a few years. Before I try to load it with ink (I also got two bottles of MB ink), I am concerned about old dried ink (and how best to get it out) and with mechanisms that might fail over time (ie do seals wear out and lead to leaking etc).

Would soaking be appropriate, or would a sonicator be needed to dislodge dried ink?

I am looking forward to using the pen and enjoying it.

First up, the N2146 you see is actually No146, it is a model 146.

Second, yes, I would soak it first and if that failed then try the sonic cleaner. I would try the soaking and flushing many times before I tried the sonic cleaner though.

Aha... I need to get out my magnifying loop!

Will do. I shall soak if for a day or so and then see what I can get for uptake and output with the ink. It appears to be completely empty and dry (ie very little ink) at this time.

It works!

Thanks for the help. I am afraid to use it as I am one of those folks who lose pens (I have met those who seem to attract cheap pens into their pockets and always have a surplus too...). I don't want to leave it unused, though, either. For now, it will be for my journal in the morning only.
